Beauty, melancholy, and raw emotion. It has a lot of meaning to me in context too. Highlights include Fourth of July, John my Beloved, Blue Bucket of Gold, and Should Have Known Better.

Special because of his story, his technical skill, and the person that showed me this album. Highlights include Pink Moon, Place To Be, and From The Morning.

So terrific. The lyrics are great, the songs are distinct within the album, just astounding. First concert I saw live with a person I really love, too, which adds.

Reminds me of what limited exposure I have to the North Carolina mountains from my childhood with the Celtic influences I always love. There are really soaring sounds on here. Highlights include Bedouin Dress, Battery Kinzie, The Plains / Bitter Dancer, and my all time favorite, The Shrine / An Argument.

Reminds me of Moline/general barren midwestern landscape contrasted with Chicago from my childhood. So so so complex and layered. Highlights include Jesus, etc., Reservations, Poor places, Ashes of American Flags, and I am trying to break your heart.

I've been a huge fan of Sam Beam's earthy/folksy sound for a while. This one's neat because it's the first album Beam studio recorded so you can hear the shift in sound quality and production. "Will you say to me when I'm gone / "Your face has faded but lingers on / Because light strikes a deal with / each coming night"" Just listen. Highlights include Naked As We Came, Cinder and Smoke, Love and Some Verses, and Each Coming Night.
