Reminds me of Moline/general barren midwestern landscape contrasted with Chicago from my childhood. So so so complex and layered. Highlights include Jesus, etc., Reservations, Poor places, Ashes of American Flags, and I am trying to break your heart. [First added to this chart: 08/30/2015]

I've been a huge fan of Sam Beam's earthy/folksy sound for a while. This one's neat because it's the first album Beam studio recorded so you can hear the shift in sound quality and production. "Will you say to me when I'm gone / "Your face has faded but lingers on / Because light strikes a deal with / each coming night"" Just listen. Highlights include Naked As We Came, Cinder and Smoke, Love and Some Verses, and Each Coming Night. [First added to this chart: 08/30/2015]

Being a byproduct of Mercer's insomnia, this album gives off a bit of a drug induced vibe (something the album art does nothing to refute) Typical brilliant lyrics but with a more haunting sound make this slightly different Shins album a favorite. Highlights include Black Wave, Spilt Needles, Sea Legs, Australia, Phantom Limb, and Turn On Me. [First added to this chart: 08/30/2015]
