Top 100 Greatest Music Albums
by Knetter

This lists the albums that I presently love best. I confined myself to the studio or live albums in my collection. I try to make no use of any 'best of' albums and compilations. That works fine but for the early ones, Robert Johnson and Chuck Berry. That was before albums were thought of as a work of art, rather then a collection of songs. May the album never lose its appeal for the artists themselves....

I don't approve of all the 'best of' compilations on BEA, but this soundtrack is really somenting special. Not just Jimmy Cliff, listen to The Maytals performing Pressure Drop. [First added to this chart: 04/20/2014]

I hate to use çompilations in my list, and I only use albums actually in my CD-rack to put this list together. In order to include Chuck Berry, I had to choose between this and From St. Louis to Liverpool. [First added to this chart: 02/22/2011]

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 85.3/100, a mean average of 84.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 85.2/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 10.2.

Good overall chart varied in genres and decades. Nice to see one of Linda Ronstadts Spanish/mexican themed album so high.

Not entirely my cup of tea but it is a nice chart. Personally I'm against the inclusion of compilations in "best-of" charts, but the comp you have as #1 is really a fantastic soundtrack (to the point that it far eclipses the movie itself).
