"Album recorded in keyboardist's garage is a lovely swansong to the Moodies' original all-in-this-together-sound. One of the nicest bittersweet goodbyes in history, with symphonic landscapes aplenty." Highlight: the greatest love song of all time, 'For My Lady'.(Read more of this review at Alan's Album Archives - see my profile page for more) [First added to this chart: 11/08/2011]

"An album that takes you beyond the stars, celebrating the optimism 40 years when man landed on the moon and wondering where we could go next. Classic Moodies!" "Loose concept album on which the Moody Blues attempt to find the one true chord that will unite us all in peace and harmony - and come pretty darn close to finding it." Highlight: 'Ride My See-Saw', a picture-perfect blast of late 60s pop.(Read more of this review at Alan's Album Archives - see my profile page for more) [First added to this chart: 11/08/2011]

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 85.1/100, a mean average of 84.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 84.8/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 9.5.

Even though we only have a handful of albums in common, I like how you describe them, especially the top 10.

Many thanks for your comment, I'm glad you like it and yes, "Long, Long, Long" is easily one of The Beatles' best songs!

I have seen your chart a couple of times before, but I'm very curious to know how "Trans" is compared to other Neil Young albums. I've only heard very few of his albums.

Really cool chart! Neil Young's Trans is woefully ignored by most. Well done!

Xavygravy: I totally agree, 'I Went To Sleep' would be the best thing on the album if it weren't for the 'Smile' pair, which do indeed sound out of place here. Pleased to hear of another fan who understand the Beach Boys 'magic'!

Xavygravy: I love 'Friends', I so wish it was better known! I've always been so impressed by how together Brian Wilson is on that album, despite all his troubles. Did you get it on the two-fer-one Cd with '20/20'? That's quite a strong album too!

Thanks for commenting on my chart alan :0). I like yours too. Looks like a real music lovers one. If only i could get around to reviewing all the albums on mine too. I'm particularly keen to see love for Tigermilk, Sunflower, and Super Furry Animals if only half love for the latter :0D.

Excellent chart and reviews, with some albums that will be on my list when I get round to incresing the number from 40 and some others that I need to check out; the Searchers for instance. Thanks for your positive comments on my chart. Arthur is the one Kinks album I don't actually own. When I finally get hold of it I will be able to judge whether it is better than Village Green!

nrs182:I honestly don't like 'Pet Sounds' 'Graceland' 'Brothers In Arms' or 'Abbey Road' that much: for me all three are highly over-rated, aren't that original or pioneering and have dated really badly compared to the gems in the artists' catalogue (like 'Smile' 'Hearts and Bones' 'Love Over Gold' etc). I'd hate to think I had to like certain albums just because everyone else does. Thanks for the comments and ratings though and glad to have found another Monkees collector!
