Nu Jazz, Drum and Bass

Utopian and architectural. Bricolage, brazilian Amon Tobin's debut, is the mesmerizing jazz/drum and bass hybrid that could have only been conceptualized during its era. Where new electronics opened up a different kind of door to artistic accessibility and expression of personality, and thus, overtures and textures not yet explored or imagined. Many of the releases created then sound as dated today as the technology used to create them, but part of Bricolage's majesty (and therefore relevancy) is in its rhythmic coordination. From the catchy "One Day In My Garden" to "Chomp Samba" that, for a lack of a better term, just goes hard. Bricolage's influence (or at least, prediction) of modern percussive trends and technicality is still exhilarating to have passing through the ears. Jazz is a genre that certainly is no slouch to the rhythm department, but to finally see it let loose of some of its tension, yet, still keep concentration, is something that is (arguably) still seen as a bit of a special occasion today. Every song here is an everbearing marvel of fiery and enigmatic stature. I mean, even the samples used here feel as integral to the experience as the warm, yet ambient sounds tinctured within. What an imagination!

Very nice and personal little chart. I can't wait to see you add more! There's several albums on here I was really into a few years ago. "Scenery" is perfect calming and reflective casual jazz. Nujabes is my favorite hip hop producer for sure. Also a great number one choice! I included My Woman from Angel Olsen on my chart since Strange Cacti isn't a full length album, but if I was considering it amongst the others it is probably my favorite project of hers. For me it's very soothing and great for listening to late at night when half asleep and trying to relieve stress and become unconscious.

If you like Angel Olsen and have not heard of Julia Jacklin I highly recommend you check her stuff out. She has a similar voice and emotional delivery, but definitely has a memorable and unique songwriting approach. Also if you like Fiona Apple then you should Check out Madison Cunningham. She is one of my new favorite artists and incorporates a lot of different styles, making really soulful and expressive tunes.
