I was born and raised by these lyrical gentlemen, their lullabies and ballads as much my soundtrack as the traffic on the road outside and the wind in the trees.

Only when we revisit and revalue do we realise that only living boy in NY and So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright are hidden gemstones, shining and priceless. The Boxer and Bridge may have more Carats but the former are just as valuable, you know.

If Bringing it all back home, Highway 61 and Blond on Blonde are Bob’s first golden period, here is the second - wiser and briefer than the first, incorporating this fine album, and Desire too.

Whilst the energy of his youth has dissipated with age, the experience of life has sharpened the songwriter’s pencil. The voice of world weary troubadour suits the subject matter better anyway. He feels the same, just with a different point of view.

I’ve long known this was a better effort then Nevermind, although I’ve only ever managed to convince one person of this - Harriet how are you? It’s more original, more coruscating and while Nevermind fades; this one scours like a Brillo pad and then matures to peaks of disfigured beauty and wilful ugliness. I have a theory that country works best when it’s dealing with the failure of love. Although the sadly departed Nanci dealt with a wide range of subjects in her songs, by sheer weight of numbers I would argue that she instinctively agreed. [First added to this chart: 07/26/2020]

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 2% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 90.0/100, a mean average of 89.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 91.9/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 13.3.

Classics and great picks. You're obviously an aficianado, and there's a great range here. We have some similar picks and a similar perspective on the amazing world of music.

Great chart, love the notes.

I agree with your appraisal of some of Dylan's finest albums:
Bringing It, Highway 61, Blonde, Blood and Desire. I would add Another Side and The Freewheelin' to the list.

Overall a great chart!

Simon and Garfunkel and The Carpenters were the soundtrack to my childhood, along with Blondie and Boney M. Did you say you were brought up with S and G too?

What a cool chart, I laughed out loud reading the comment on Pet Sounds.
It might be the best tweet long definition of that album I've seen

Definitely an interesting list. I wish it was longer than 10, but as it is it's solid. I enjoy the variety. I really need to listen to Astral Weeks again.
