Top Double Albums by adbrack1988

The double album is a tricky concept to pull off, but when done correctly they are very rewarding. I've always felt the standard 40-45 minute album is the ideal length as it allows enough time to get a healthy taste of the artist without overstaying its welcome, so if it wants to maintain attention for longer than that it had better have enough quality material.

Since the idea of a double album sort of died when the compact disc was invented, which removed the album length limitations of a single vinyl record, this list is heavily pre-1990s. Since artists didn't really release double albums anymore starting around that time, I'm only including post-1980s albums that are in the 65-70+ minute range that would sufficiently occupy 4 sides of a vinyl record.

It was really trendy to release live double albums in the 1970s, and while many of those would make this list I have excluded them given that they are closer to greatest hits albums rather than studio releases.
