"After more than two years and nearly a hundred listens probably, this still feels extremely fresh and invigorating. Almost as good as immaculate Little Earthquakes, and a truly perfect album. If I didn't have my one-album-per-artist rule, this would be around #8 on my chart."  Reply

"The music scene in Amherst/Northampton, Massachuetts, back in the late eighties and early nineties has to have produced more great bands per capita than any other in history. J Mascis is one of rock history's greatest under-the-radar guitar gods, underrated perhaps because his extravagant soloing..."  [+]  Reply

"These guys once played on the shore of the Arctic Ocean with Metallica for a bunch of Inuit kids and Molson contest winners. Could you imagine? A hell of a show, I'm sure."  Reply

"This is one of those albums where upon listening, it’s obvious how many similar bands were formed in its wake. They perfected the heavy, shoegaze-y sound here. Chino Moreno is a big fan and with good reason. Just a really solid album."  Reply

"This album stunned me. Prophetic, apocalyptic, tender and dark. It made me realise just how powerful music can be when it has poetry in the lyrics, and just how lame most song lyrics really are. I read an interview with Mogwai once. They asked them why they don’t write lyrics for their music. The..."  [+]  Reply

"This is truly a great album with surprising songs. I remember I heard the song Instant Street for the first time, I loved it immediately and I love it still. Even the last song is mesmerizing."  Reply

"Hey, so I have not listened to the album yet. And I am sure it would be worth my time. But I have to ask two questions (1) Are all these songs really BEA 90+ quality or has a little magic happened here? (2) Is this album anything like Benji by Sun Kil Moon?"  Reply

"Very good hard rock/progressive metal album. Best 10 songs average is 91,2/100, the album gets 90/100. It's continuously strong without any lows. "If "You Get What You Give" isn't the best song Mick Jagger wishes he wrote, I don't know what is. Outstanding songwriting, and the music is only about a half-step behind. People love to crack wise on this, but whatever. This was one of the better albums of the 90s and an album that was essential ..."  [+]  Reply
