- De La Soul Is Dead by De La Soul (nr 34): I can't say I'm unfamiliar with this album because many of the tracks were all over the place on the radio at the time. So if there's one album of the genre I could like it's this one: but I don't
.

But look at my latest comment of Endtroducing: there's at least one hiphop album I fairly liked ๐Ÿ˜‰

I love that you keep trying anyways! lol. And I really wouldn't classify Endtroducing as Hip Hop. ๐Ÿ˜œ

I agree but that's how it's classified everywhere.

After a long time because I was mostly busy rechecking my favorite albums of 2017 here are some more contributions for albums of 1996 I listened to:
- Odelay by Beck (nr 4 on the overall BEA top chart of 1996): this is another of those Beck albums I really don't like (Sea Change is more my thing).
- ร†nima by Tool (nr 5): Tool is not my favorite band and not this album either.
- Sublime by Sublime (nr 6): to me there's not much sublime to this Sublime by Sublime. This was one of those Californian skapunk albums which didn't catch on in Europe and to me rightfully so because this album sounds very uninspired.
- Everything Must Go by Manic Street Preachers (nr 7): And another of these bands of which I couldn't understand the success (I have the feeling that this is one of these years where I'm completely out of touch with the general canon ๐Ÿ˜‰ )
- Reasonable Doubt by Jay-Z (nr 8 ) and
All Eyez On Me by 2Pac (nr 12) and ATLiens by OutKast (nr 15): just 3 hiphop albums together and not my cup of tea.
- Soundtracks For The Blind by Swans (nr 10): there are Swans albums I like and I appreciate Gyra as an artist but this very veeery long album was a bit too much and without a lot of focus. This was a struggle to listen to it completely (literally because not all the tracks were available on Apple Music but I discovered late that they were on Spotify but mostly also in the other sense).
- Murder Ballads by Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds (nr 11): again a very good Nick Cave album of which I already knew most of the tracks.
- Richard D. James Album by Aphex Twin (nr 14): sometimes I can appreciate this type of music but this one I really didn't although sometimes the beats were very fast.

The next album to listen to is The Score by The Fugees.

More albums of 1996:
- The Score by Fugees (nr 18 on the overall BEA top chart of 1996): I can't deny the Fugees are like a breath of fresh air in that male dominated hiphop world but overall still not my thing although especially the covers do have something (but mostly because they're based on good songs anyway).
- Long Season by ใƒ•ใ‚ฃใƒƒใ‚ทใƒฅใƒžใƒณใ‚บ [Fishmans] (nr 19): well this is something special: at first sight very repetitive and the third track is not very good but after while this piano theme just gets under your skin and when that bit of guitar is added in the fifth one:wow. Btw the album cover is at first view also a dud but I kept looking at it while listening to the music and I love it now because it has the same indescribable weirdness as the music.
- Crash by Dave Matthews Band (nr 20): a band which has done nothing at all in Europe and I think rightly so: the music overall is very bland: well played but still without any highlights.
- On Avery Island by Neutral Milk Hotel (nr 21): I like ITAOTS but I'm not wild of it. This album is different but I have about the same general feeling with it. But my first fairly positive views on it were completely killed off by listening to the last long agonising and utterly boring track.
- Evil Empire by Rage Against The Machine (nr 23): I'm not a fan of RATM and this album doesn't change that.

The next album to listen to is Boys for Pele by Tori Amos.

While jumping from 2017 to 1991 I've also jumped a bit around 1996 albums:
- Boys For Pele by Tori Amos (nr. 25 on the overall BEA top chart of 1996): Tori Amos isn't an artist I dislike at all but until now I don't like the overall quality of her albums to include them in my personal charts.
- Fashion Nugget by Cake (nr 26): an album filled with radio hits but maybe except for Italian Leather Sofa (which wasn't a hit) not really my cup of tea.
- Emperor Tomato Ketchup by Stereolab (nr 27): I fairly like some of their other albums but not this one which reminds me a bit of bad french disco.
- Tidal by Fiona Apple (nr 28 ): and another female artist I fairly like and there are some fine songs available here but overall I will not include it.
- Millions Now Living Will Never Die by Tortoise (nr 30): I missed some actual songs here and I guess from what I've already heard from this band they're not my thing.
- Coming Up by Suede (nr 31): to me Suede was always one of the worst britpop bands nor for the voice of Brett Anderson nor for the songs. This album however started out really good with Trash which it isn't but the rest of the album was again good old Suede, ie not for me.
- Music From The Unrealized Film Script: Dusk At Cubist Castle by The Olivia Tremor Control (nr 32): when I saw the many tracks on this album (of which 10 times Green Typewriters) I feared the worst but I actually very much liked this very psychedelic album. Even half of the Green Typewriters were good.
- Antichrist Superstar by Marilyn Manson (nr 33): This is shock rock at its most extreme but really without any added value beyond that. And after a while the songs (also because this album is much too long) one undefinable blur.

The next album to listen to is Yourself Or Someone Like You by Matchbox Twenty which I always saw as some kind of boysband but I might be wrong when I read some of the critics so I'm curious.

Some more albums of 1996 I listened to:
- Yourself Or Someone Like You by Matchbox Twenty (nr 34 on the overall BEA top chart of 1996): my worst fears came true with this album: utterly boring and bland.
- Moseley Shoals by Ocean Colour Scene (nr 35): I was nearly gonna dismiss this album but then I heard the last two songs which were really fine and also the Circle was good. So a bit of a mixed bag but just good enough to make it to my personal chart and maybe I should listen to it again to really appreciate the album.
Signify by Porcupine Tree (nr 36): As always with Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson I know I have to listen to these albums twice to really grasp them but even after two times it's not really my thing and I think I can see a pattern. I generally like both the SW and PT albums from 1999 and beyond but not really the PT albums before that year just because they contain a bit too much pointless noodling like on this one: ex Pagan (short) Light Mass Prayers (medium) or Intermediate Jesus (long); this while there are some fairly good tracks on it like the closer Dark Matter. One way or another his songwriting got better in the later stage of the band and solo so he doesn't have to use those prog tricks any more (while the music however is still kinda prog).

The next album to listen to is Down On The Upside by Soundgarden.

2 More albums of 1996 I listened to:
- Down On The Upside by Soundgarden (nr 37): there's a few tracks on this album that were ok (like Pretty Noose) and at their best they even sound a bit like Pearl Jam (which is a compliment), but overall I don't think any record of them will make me a fan of theirs.
- Tiny Music... Songs From The Vatican Gift Shop by Stone Temple Pilots (nr 38 ): this is a much more varied and adventurous album than the rest of their output and I like it.

The next album to listen to is Through Silver in Blood by Neurosis.
  • Quote
Moving on to the end of 1996 albums to listen to:
- Through Silver In Blood by Neurosis (nr 40 on the overall BEA top chart): the first track is like a dinosaur tramping around a thick forest accompanied by the sound of a sledgehammer and Purify is like that same dinosaur tramping through that same forest accompanied by bagpipes. So I'm not really a fan of this album.
- Take It From The Man! by The Brian Jonestown Massacre (nr 41): I fairly liked this one: nothing very special but ok enough to include this album in my personal top chart.
- Placebo by Placebo (nr 42): there's something special with Placebo: everytime I listen to one of their albums (and I already knew this one) I think: nice but this is fairly common stuff which will bore me after a while because all the tracks sound the same: but in the end I keep on finishing those albums with a satisfied feeling because they somehow succeed to keep their songs interesting until the end and that certainly counts for this first album of theirs.
- Older by George Michael (nr 43): I can't even begin to tell you how depressing was: because of the subject, because of the lyrics but most of all because of the fact that I didn't like the music at all.
- Bringing Down The Horse by The Wallflowers (nr 45): the fairly known One Headlight is OK and also God Don't Make Lonely Girls is not bad but overall not really inspired this album.
- K by Kula Shaker (nr 46): but I did like this album. Sometimes they sound like a Middle Eastern version of Oasis but generally I liked the grooves and the songs including their hits.

The next album to listen to is Filosofem by Burzum which can't be other than Black Metal ๐Ÿ˜‰

Filosofem is incredible! You probably wonโ€™t love the end Ambient parts but itโ€™s great imo.

But then again I think that Neurosis album is just pure amazingness, one of the greatest atmospheric sludge albums ever. (This coming from a total noob who has heard maybe 15 such albums in his life... so ther snthat)
