Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by halloallesgoed Unknown

I know having this many albums that are already rated really high on the site on your list isn't appreciated, but I feel like if so many people have liked these, then these are the albums I have the best chance of falling in love with.
I don't know where else to start frankly and that´s just what I´m doing, starting, so the chart probably will change a lot in the future.
If you have recommendations based on this list I'ld love to hear them!

After not really getting 'kind of blue' (though I know I will someday, having loved other Miles Davis albums that maybe should be on this chart as well and not really having a reason to dislike it) I thought jazz wasn't for me. And the first time I heard this I didn't think it was any different from all the jazz I had heard before. I'm glad I gave it some more tries, and perhaps the fact that this is his sonic ode to god and their love supreme helped me connect with it even without lyrics. I just didn't know what emotions jazz was supposed to convey, because it wasn't put into words. I'm fine now though. [First added to this chart: 12/09/2016]

Most people wouldn't put a Sabbath lp over all the Zeppelin albums I think, but this thing just has so much personality, which I feel Zeppelin sometimes is lacking, though they make up for it in spades with their technical ability. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be frightened by this record, but songs like the title track and 'iron man' just make me laugh, which I mean in the best possible way. It's the most varied of the Black Sabbath albums I've heard, with them especially stepping out of their familiar sound on 'planet caravan', which they do so succesfully and it's one of the most chill and beautiful songs I know.

On this one Prince perfected 80's pop. That's not to say it's conforming to the masses, Prince and the masses just seemed to magically link up, probably because it's so damn catchy. 'When doves cry' is just the freaking best, isn't it? His vocals, the words, that synthesiser. This whole album is so over the top, I love it, he was just the coolest. Absolute ear candy. This kind of gets all the other VU albums and puts it in one. What I mean by that is that it has the folky sweet mellowness of 'the velvet underground', the rawness of 'white light/white heat' and the fun mainstream rock kind of sound of 'loaded'. I love all the others, so this is my favorite. Oh, and the influence. Favorite: Heroin.

Love at first listen. Modern Beach Boys kind of subjects about relationships and stuff. Really honest and quite raw compared to the poprock sound, works well. El scorcho is ma fave.

I love Wilco and this is their best. Calling Jesus honey somehow is genius to me.

The contrast with the album beneath in many ways couldn't be bigger, but the one above is pretty close come to think of it. Tweedy and Joni both seem like difficult people to love, but the music definitely helps a bunch. This album sounds so real to me and it can tear you apart. [First added to this chart: 12/09/2016]

This man has a great sense of humor, he's rhyming like a mad man and he tells the most vivid stories. The beats are awesome and he makes them totally his own. I get it if you don't like it, it sounds superficial to you or you think he goes too far, I just have the best time front to back with this album. [First added to this chart: 12/07/2016]

The first time I listened to this was the first time I really listened to Bowie. I had just discovered this site and when I suddenly found a hidden portion of my dad's record collection I knew this one was ranked highly. So I listened to it and when the vinyl stopped spinning I loved the first side so much I just spun it again. This is his most homely album imo and it's lyrics are very sophisticated. I think it's very funny how he mocks Andy Warhol and praises the VU on the same album, though explicit and implicit respectively. It's not rare that starting artists wear their influences on their sleave, but it is rare when there's such an unique voice who in hindsight probably didn't need them to get going. Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 1% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 92.0/100, a mean average of 92.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 93.5/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 8.8.

great stuff! You definitely must check out the Smile Sessions. It can be a little harder to get into, as its a little more out there than Pet Sounds, but after numerous listens it becomes another masterpiece, almost on par with Pet Sounds

Good list - don't worry about having many top rated albums in your list - they're rated highly for a reason. A lot of people on the site don't like the accept that overwhelming consensus might mean a piece of art is pretty darn good and that if you don't have a list of obscure artist no one has ever heard of it must be a terrible list.

I enjoyed reading your comments!
