Kate Bush is my favorite artist and made my favorite album, Hounds of Love. Its an album that just hits me the right way. From its pop sensibilities on the first side, to experiential prog rock Ninth Wave, there is so much this album has to offer. And its all so beautiful.

From the album's hit "Running Up That Hill", one of the most perfect song detailing a need for equality and seeing differing perspectives through a lover's eyes, to "Cloudbusting", a song dedicated to psychoanalyst becomes an inadvertent song from a son growing up and coming out of their shell to their father, its all just beautiful.

And that doesn't top my favorite song on the album, the title track, one of the purest songs about love their ever was; but not about falling in love. Its instead about being in love but being to scared to actually do something about the feeling that you have in relation to love. Its filled with such yearning and want.

And the second side is so wild. From the thunderous "Waking the Witch", to the ethereal "Hello Earth", this side encapsulates so many sounds while still being the same story, all about a woman alone, drifting at sea.

To me it seems quite clear that Kate Bush was ahead of her time with this album, and its placement in the top 100 of the latest Rolling Stones' Greatest Albums of All Time list, to the clear inspiration of her sound in an artist like Adele, St. Vincent and others, it seems like we are just catching up to her. So maybe the woman in the Ninth Wave was Kate herself, adrift alone in the sea of music, alone with herself and what she was creating.

My favorite solo Beatles effort, cause it is so enormous. Just an outpouring of all the work that George had in his head, released onto the world in gorgeous detail. It flows. (George is also my favorite Beatle.)

Just you favorite deejay savior here, with a debut album full of fantastic sample after sample. My favorite album in the genre of triphop. Makes one feels so cool while listen, even during its dark broodiness. Another album that was my favorite at one point.

Much how like Coltrane made A Love Supreme as a love letter to god, Kendrick Lamar did the same for To Pimp a Butterfly. So radical in its politics, full of a fantastic storyline, of one man obtaining it all, feeling worthless and finding God, and not to mention its fantastic jazz inspired instrumentation and great bars, it really is the album of the 2010s. Big Kendrick fan.

One of my favorite albums of not just 1967, the psychedelic year; the Summer of Love era, but also of the 1960s period. Just great pop song tinged with psychedelic production and laced with latin inspired guitars. Would we have had rock in the 70s if not for Love?

Motown soul goes political, and frankly the world is better off from it happening. A great album from beginning to end. And realizing this one a vinyl copy I bought of the album, which sounded fantastic, just added to the enjoyment.

This album had never been my favorite in the VU's catalog. I had always gone around with the other four albums, but recently I found myself attached to this album more than others. Its soft touch and mellow songs with Candy Says and Pure Blue Eyes to throwback rockers like What Goes On and Beginning to See the Light, to the beauty of Jesus and the simplicity of After Hours, its lineup almost a personal rock opera, all of which makes its departure from the abrasive and experimental previous two albums worth it for this result (although this album still features that experimentation with the weirdo Murder Mystery). Just nice that I finally came around to this album, so much so, that I think it became one of my new favorite albums. [First added to this chart: 04/08/2023]

I blame my high school friend Wren for putting me onto this album. Its their fault; now I love it. I'm a hipster now.

But seriously, I love the tracks instrumentation, the overarching story through the songs, one of a loved lost, and the weird songwriting from Mangum.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 3% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 89.7/100, a mean average of 90.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 90.6/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.0.

This might be my favorite chart on this whole website. First of all, I love your hip hop choices more than anyone I have seen on here. DJ Shadow, Kendrick, Brockhampton, and J Dilla? Well done. Lots of alternative classics as well like Captain Beefheart and Love. Big fan of your Sufjan Stevens pick as well, though I personally would go with Age of Adz. But all in all, very awesome
