Apologies again - a quick update for July 2020 -as tastes change and new music is discovered and there were some glaringly obvious omissions (stone roses) -more detailed reasons as described below in 2017
Apologies to the people who kindly took the time to rate and comment on my chart before September 2017, but I am changing/adding to my original chart as my music collection has grown - so your ratings may not reflect the updated chart - sorry !
Basically due to besteveralbums.com I discovered Led Zeppelin !!
due to besteveralbums.com I discovered that there was more to Fleetwood Mac then 'Tango in the night'!
And because of besteveralbums.com I discovered 'Born to run' and fell in love with the entire works of Bruce Springsteen !!!!!!!
So thank you besteveralbums and the people who use it ......... My updated chart (September 2017) is as follows .......

Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

Really enjoyed going through your chart! Some great albums in the pocket there. I loved seeing Goat's Head Soup rated so high, man that record is special. Nice to Alanis making the chart as well, I know she sold millions, but sometimes I don't think she gets the critical respect she deserves. haha

Some really good music here. You might like The Moon and Antarctica by modest mouse, if you haven’t heard it already. It is older but I just started listening to it recently.

Very cool chart - good number one. My favourite album of the 90s by far. And a top one of mine.
Some really good albums, good to see the Breeders and The Top by The Cure. I am listening to songs from that album loads at the minute. Never one of my favourite Cure albums, aside from The Caterpillar, I am beginning to love it now that songs from it keep coming up on my iPod when I play it on shuffle, which I do a lot.
I too am getting into Bruce Springsteen right now.
