What is the greatest hard rock band of all time? The Who would be my answer, but I don't think it's a hard rock band. Only in the beginning, they produced their youth anthem 'My Generation' as a hard rock song, but after that, they made symphonic, musically complex songs. That kind of songs appear on this album. From the thrilling intro of 'Baba O'Riley' to the vibing end of 'Won't Get Fooled Again', it's a record with nine of their best tracks. All of them could be released as a single, but they didn't. But the perfection on this album is from such a high level, that this is truly the greatest album of all time. [First added to this chart: 06/12/2011]

Where we started with 'hard rock', if we place the music of The Who anywhere, we continue with 'soft rock' or even, as you like it, 'pop'. The harmonic melodies of Fleetwood Mac are not as complex as the melodies by The Who, but they sound SO great. The struggling relations between the band members made this album to what it is. A stunning collection of eleven great tracks, with 'The Chain' as the greatest of them. If we take a look at that song, it has all a popular song should have: a great bass play, a great guitar solo, harmonic voices and a very nice intro. But that's not the only song on this album. All of the other songs could be, just like it was with The Who, released as a single. And that says a lot about the perfection of this album. [First added to this chart: 06/12/2011]

The addition of Neil Young is the best thing David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash did in their career. Young was the final piece of this band. With him, their sound evolved to a emotional, but at the same moment rocking ensemble, that delivered masterpieces like 'Helpless' (emotional) and 'Woodstock' (rocking). The vocal harmonies on this album are again from a really high level, just as it was with the debut album. But then even better. Alright, the guitar playing and stuff isn't as good as Mark Knopfler or Pete Townshend, but I really like the raw guitar sound too. Really good album. [First added to this chart: 06/12/2011]

With this album, Queen delivered a very varied album, that hasn't appeared since the records by The Beatles. It starts strange: 'Death On Two Legs' starts like a dramatic opera, but soon, it gets into a hard rock song (that's still great, though). Songs like 'Seaside Rendezvous' and 'Lazy On A Sunday Afternoon' are on one side funny, but at the other side, they're in some sort of way great. And of course, there is 'Bohemian Rhapsody': one of the most epic songs of all time. The only reason that this isn't a perfect album, is 'The Prophet's Song'. That is the only song that gets boring after a couple of minutes, and its duration is more than eight minutes, so you can understand what I thought about when it finally ended. But still, there are some great songs on the album. [First added to this chart: 06/12/2011]

This is a chart that has split me in two. I literally love 1/2 of it & am really not keen on the other 1/2 but looking forward to the last 20 being added.
