What is the greatest hard rock band of all time? The Who would be my answer, but I don't think it's a hard rock band. Only in the beginning, they produced their youth anthem 'My Generation' as a hard rock song, but after that, they made symphonic, musically complex songs. That kind of songs appear on this album. From the thrilling intro of 'Baba O'Riley' to the vibing end of 'Won't Get Fooled Again', it's a record with nine of their best tracks. All of them could be released as a single, but they didn't. But the perfection on this album is from such a high level, that this is truly the greatest album of all time.

A lot of people say that 'Brothers In Arms' isn't a 'Dire Straits-sounding' album. In fact, I really don't mind. Some of their best songs appear on this album, whether it's Dire Straits-sounding or not. Since I am listening to 'old music', Dire Straits is by far my favourite band. However, they didn't take the first place in my list with favourite albums. Why? They didn't produce a 'perfect' album. In my eyes, only 'Who's Next' and 'Rumours' are perfect albums. 'Why Worry' is in my eyes the reason why this album isn't a perfect record. After a couple of minutes, it gets boring. But when you listen to for example 'Brothers In Arms': that gives goosebumps at the end. And every style of song appears on this album: the hard rock with 'Money For Nothing', the party-pop with 'Walk Of Life', the laidback, relax-style with 'So Far Away', a jazz-sounding 'Your Latest Trick' and the epic ending with 'Brothers In Arms'. But there's still 'Why Worry'...

With this album, Queen delivered a very varied album, that hasn't appeared since the records by The Beatles. It starts strange: 'Death On Two Legs' starts like a dramatic opera, but soon, it gets into a hard rock song (that's still great, though). Songs like 'Seaside Rendezvous' and 'Lazy On A Sunday Afternoon' are on one side funny, but at the other side, they're in some sort of way great. And of course, there is 'Bohemian Rhapsody': one of the most epic songs of all time. The only reason that this isn't a perfect album, is 'The Prophet's Song'. That is the only song that gets boring after a couple of minutes, and its duration is more than eight minutes, so you can understand what I thought about when it finally ended. But still, there are some great songs on the album.

The Beatles are the most legendary band of all time, of course. And with this album, they delivered an album that sounds great, something that not all the albums of them did. The level of sound is incredibly high, especially for that time, and the B-side of the album is maybe the greatest B-side of any record ever made. Especially the 'Golden Slumbers Medley' is great, the greatest part of the album. But also 'Here Comes The Sun' is one of my favourite Beatles-songs.

This is a chart that has split me in two. I literally love 1/2 of it & am really not keen on the other 1/2 but looking forward to the last 20 being added.
