Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by Crhmgs

Edit: 12/03/2021 this is today's chart of the day, I just want to thank you all for being so nice and reciprocating, there are a lot of artists that I must check out and a lot of things i must put in order before finishing this, to be honest with you, I don't know if i will ever get to finish it, not because I don't want to, but because I don't have too much time nowadays, but yeah, whenever I have the chance to, i will re-visit this chart, delete albums, add albums, etc.

Look, this chart is a mess, mostly because i can't bring myself to advance as much as i would like to. But my idea is to make a chart that it's as equally divided; filled with popular records and with records that i think deserve more attention, a 50/50, if you will... But I don't have that kind of knowledge yet, well, maybe that isn't it, i think it's mostly that i want to pick records that i'll be comfortable with, and as of today i would say im about 30% happy with this chart, and look, I don't want to sound like a total indie guy or like someone who hasn't an opinion on his own either, or maybe even both. i'll try to utilize every space in this chart to say how i feel about the record and why i love it so much and give a little bit of trivia in the process, sometimes i will get so inspired that i will even try to write some bloody awful poetry, even if i know i might not have the widest vocabulary to do it. I do think that the one artist per chart rule is fair, but i don't want to use it, because there are so many records/artists i think they deserve all my love, even if they already had more than enough of it, lol, but that will change in the future (IT DID, SEE "EDIT") it's not like Radiohead or The Strokes need more points on BEA than they already have, so I don't know, we'll see... I do appreciate all feedback and even appreciate that you are here looking at this mess, i will update here each descriptions i have done, if you want to check them out you are free to do so, cause i honestly don't have any idea of when i'm going to finish this, but yeah, that's it.

I might be a lazy af, but when i do get to write, i write a lot (most of the time) so BEWARE.

Ohhh and some of the records have descriptions in both spanish and english just for the sake of it and because they actually help me to get my thoughts together and to do a more focused inspection on the record, BUT i will translate all that, so don't worry.

Descrpitions made so far:

- Bob Dylan - Blonde On Blonde
- The Afghan Whigs - Gentlemen
- Kanye West - The College Dropout
- Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Love Bad News (This record has now been removed from this chart, but the original description is in my other chart, which is a recollection of the records that were in here, but for a reason were eliminated)
- GZA- Liquid Swords
- Yes - Fragile
- Buena Vista Social Club - Buena Vista Social Club
-Maroon 5 - Songs About Jane
-Silversun Pickups - Carnavas
-The Doors - Morrison Hotel
-The Cars - The Cars
-Babasónicos - Jessico (already translated)
-Pre)Thing - 22nd Century Lifestyle

Well, if you see more descriptions that aren't mentioned in here it might be because a) they aren't finished yet b) they suck... But anyway you are free to read them as well, I will try to finish them/improve them later... i just had a Déjà vu about this...

Well, enjoy!

EDIT: I'm totally convinced now that this chart sucks lol, don't get me wrong, I do love every single record i picked, but there is so much wasted potential and empty spaces that all in all, it just doesn't feel right, so I finally decided to improve it a little bit. You see, my biggest fear with this chart was not being able to give as many points as i think an artists deserve, and. I am truly sorry for every record that was left behind, i wish i could give every one of them 100 points, haha, but since i can't do that i will do my best to make this chart look how i think it should look. So as of now, i will apply the one artist per chart rule (EXCEPT for The Afghan Whigs, I really love that band) And additionally, i will do another chart with the albums that were eliminated from their position within the chart and also i will do another with my favorite records, so i won't have to be limited by the same rule again.

"And it don't bleed and it don't breathe, it's locked its jaws and now it's swallowing, it's in our heart, its in our heads, it's in our love, baby it's in our bed". That's first chorus from the opening track of Gentlemen, and all in all, i think it sums pretty well the motive, the mood... the feeling of the record.

I didn't know anything about The Afghan Whigs until last year, thanks to one of my best friends, he told me that he think that i would love them, and he was pretty much right, i have listened to almost all of their records since and i have become a fan the band, my first experience with them was with thier 1998 record "1965" which i love and i think it's pretty underrated, but anyway i will talk about that later on the chart. Produced by Greg Dulli himself, Gentlemen was truthly the biggest record the band had ever released (and i think it still is, even if The Afghan Whigs weren't the most popular band out there). There is a lot to say about this record, some of the most honest and brutal lyrics i have ever listened to are in here, every word hurts just like someone trying to slowly burn your heart, there is also some unique piano melodies featured in a lot of the songs trought the record, which might be a surpise for some people, considering this thing came out in the early 90's, where mainstream rock was filled by grunge bands. Dulli himself said that this record is a kind of recollection of stories and feelings, that are not necessarily inspired by him, but rather an interpretation of how a relationship can fall and broke as if they were made of glass; beautiful, fragile, lonely, poetic... and like i said earlier you cannot get more honest than this, in a way i think this is one of the truest forms of love.

Gentlemen kicks off with the already mentioned "If I Were Going" which can be seen as an introduction to the emotional disturbance that will await for us in every single song of the record, the song utilizes metaphors of a monster that doesn't bleed or breathe to tell us about how he feels about his relationship now that nothing is the same; the silence turned into a monster that it's killing him, that guilty feeling... Then in a perfectly made transitional move we can hear the drums playing a sick beat which leads us to the tittle track of the record "Gentlemen", memorable and self-indulgent lyrics such as "understand that i'm a gentlemen" almost like he is forcing you to see him as a "gentlemen", a sexy riff with a sexy solo, what more could you ask for? "Be Sweet" is a song about someone who wants to be loved, and ask women to "be sweet" to him, even if he is an asshole, who just wants to "fuck", the breakdown in the first chorus makes this song even better for me and the "baby, you be sweet, be sweet" part kills me, beautiful track, love it. "When We Two Parted" is a heartbreaking song about a helpless lover who cannot do anything, but to struggle with thier relationship "If it starts to hurt you... then you have to say so" also i love the bass on this one. "Fountain and Fairfax" describes drinking as an exit of all the narrator's problems, the screams in here are simply amazing, Dulli at its best. "What Jail is Like" is one of the greatest songs in the record, the feeling of desesperation and anxiety are written all over this song and the fights are here too "Your image... your definition of a friend" that piano melody is great. lead singer of the band Scrawl, Marcy Mays comes and performs the only song Dulli thought it wasn't meant for him to sing in all The Afghan Whigs repertoire: "My Curse" amazing, beautiful song, love everything about it; the acoustic melody, the solo and the heartbreaking obsession that comes with the lyrics... a personal favourite of mine. one of the heavier songs on the record has to be "Now You Know" which has a piano melody like the the two previous songs "My sweetness, my everything!" great track too. It's an irony both the heaviest and the calmest songs are next to each other in here, but still, "I Keep Coming Back" is one of my favourites songs from the record too, it's a nice and sweet ballad that concludes with everything that has been said already... the narrator needs this woman in his life and he is sorry for making her feel bad. "Brother Woodrow/Closing prayer" it's an instrumental track and my least favourite track from the record, that being said, i still like it, it's an emotional ending to a devastating record.

Favourite Tracks:

If I Were Going: The introduction to one of my favourite records, i love how it sets the mood for every track to come, i love the lyrics and i love the interlude that connects this song to "Gentlemen"

Be Sweet: The story of a vulnerable man trying to keep his apparence cope with his emptiness by sleeping with other people, but still feeling unsatisfied at the end, brilliant.

Debonair: The resentiments in the air are strong with this one, and i love that they re-used the "it don't bleed..." part from "If i Were Going" as if it was some sort of warning of what this song is trying to tell"this ain't about regrets, it's when i tell the truth".

My Curse: Hard not to love this song, there is so much going on, and i'm always absolutely fascinated by the lyrics and how she seems to be on a sort of "magical spell", an almost religious feeling, by someone who she sees herself as an slave to. Beautiful.

I Keep Coming Back: This is obviously a very personal choice, cause i know it's not a fan-favourite, but honestly this song is too much for my heart to handle :( i can't help but feel like im going to melt down whenever this song plays, i find it so honest, and pure that i think it deserves to be here.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 2% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 91.2/100, a mean average of 94.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 94.2/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.1.

Just here for the descriptions. Your music preference is your own. The justification is what makes the list great. Keep it up.

Always happy to see LCD up on top. Surprised to not see any Arcade Fire / Sigur Ros / War on Drugs. Feel like they'd tie-in well with your other albums on here. Cheers.
