Top 40 Music Albums of 2002
by mrmcrook

A year where apart from the number 1, all others are quite equal in ratings for me. Hence difficult to accurately rank. Very even. Compilations, greatest hits, soundtracks etc listed after studio albums. And there seems to be quite a few of them that I'd acquired that were released this year

85.50 Hard rock n roll. Basic feel but fucking fantastic. Great length album. One that you can forget how good it is if not played for ages. Should be more widely recognized. I'm amazed it sits at about number 22,500 in the rankings [First added to this chart: 10/09/2020]

84.50 An overlooked gem of an album. Great psych rock. Fantastic from start to finish. Nice flow and rhythm and one which you cant help but nod your head and tap your foot too. One that you forget how fucking good it is if not pulled out and listened to on a semi regular basis. [First added to this chart: 10/09/2020]

84.44 Following up 'Play' was always going to be a hard ask. I think he's done an excellent job with this. Many beautifully composed pieces within. Again there's a great tranquility with some added oomph throughout. Top notch album [First added to this chart: 10/09/2020]

80.62 Not as epic as what came immediately before or after but I still love this album. It was the last one of the SOAD albums I bought due to it looking budget. Very under rated considering it was meant to be a collection of B-sides and left overs. Took a few listens to gel but I rate it up there with there others. SOAD have a very unique sound, so if you like there other stuff there's no reason you shouldn't like this 12/24 [First added to this chart: 10/09/2020]

79.50 Love the Chem's. Not their best but up there. Always pleased after listening as always better than I'm thinking it's going to be. Steady right through. Always great when they've got Beth Orton on board. [First added to this chart: 10/09/2020]

One that needs to be listened to on a semi-regular basis or you can forget how good it is nearly straight after hearing it. (That sounds strange but that's how it is for me). Many blissfully serene tracks but with a psych rock edge. 'Do You Realize??' being the song that emotional hits me more than any other song ever. Now that's saying something [First added to this chart: 10/09/2020]

79.23 Read in a 'Classic Rock' mag a review of the first 4 Soulfly albums that have just been reissued. I love 'Primitive' & rate it as one of the greatest metal albums. In this review they said that this was way better. Got it a week later. It's good but jury is still out. More listens needed as Primitive is fucking great. *** More time now passed. Primitive is better. [First added to this chart: 05/05/2023]

77.54* Quite an under rated album this. I prefer it over most other Oasis and am surprised it's not ranked higher among there albums. Very consistent quality right through. Couple of the tracks have a familiar feel to them but you get that sometimes. 05/25 [First added to this chart: 10/09/2020]

77.00 This has a very similar structure to most other Pearl Jam albums. Pros: It's very consistent right through with the obligatory couple of outstanding tracks. ('I Got Mine' being one of the greatest ever PJ songs). Cons: Even though most tracks are above average, their albums for some reason just feel like there's too much filler. Which is why this, even though a good album also falls into the also ran category. 12/24 [First added to this chart: 10/09/2020]
