Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. Great chart! Get some more choices on there! I was very pleased to see Of Montreal and The Brian Jonestown Massacre on there. Those are two that I have really embraced over the past few months. Like you, I'd place both right up there with the other more prominent choices. :o)

It's nice to see someone who has a lot of classic albums in their chart. Experimental stuff is good too but it's nice to see people still love the classics.
