Astonishing arrangement and musical interplay from the Canadian trio. 1 complaint: it needs a longer run-time, or so it seems. [First added to this chart: 07/03/2013]

Marillion's first, some complain that it's a bit of a Gabriel-era Genesis copy. I appreciate it for what it is, a brooding and pulsating monster, with 6 distinct epics. [First added to this chart: 07/07/2015]

A shot of warm + fuzzies each time the 5 part harmony kicks in, which is often. The relaxed and lighthearted manner in which the sessions came about was captured in the mix. [First added to this chart: 07/03/2013]

Discipline deserves it's place along the others in the top 25 for having not a single flawed note on the record. Marvelously conceived, it served as an innovative reboot of the King Crimson collective. [First added to this chart: 07/03/2013]

A perfectly executed concept album, with not a single note spared or misused. Damn I miss the combination of Fish, Rotherty, Kelly, Trewavas, and Moseley. [First added to this chart: 06/12/2016]

This earns a spot for sentimental purposes. As a 9 year old, the cassette tape was a crown jewels in my meager collection. Sounds a bit simplistic today, but still get's me shouting along during the choruses. [First added to this chart: 12/24/2015]

Tuck this one in the eccentric file. A hypnotizing excursion into the avant garde, aided by Peter Gabriel in a few spots. The accompanying film "Home of the Brave" is kinda whacky, but also magnificent in spots. [First added to this chart: 04/14/2022]

Off-center characters marching along to a percussive ensemble that sounds as if it was organized inside a kitchen cupboard. Clap hands! This eclectic set slightly edges out one from Tom's smokey jazz club days, "Blue Valentine". [First added to this chart: 12/24/2015]

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 7% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 88.3/100, a mean average of 89.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 89.4/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.8.

Very nice chart! There-s a lot of records in common with my personal top 100 (still working on it) but also a lot of albums I'm keen to discover.

I've previously rated this chart, but looking at it now, I like it much much more. What I really like is that you are not bound to any BEA group think, you are a champion for the outliers, your comments are short & sharp & honest. I even forgive you for having 2 Dylan albums - neither of which is from the 60's or 70's (very unique indeed). What I cannot forgive is that you have no Australian artists/albums - hence, a deduction of 5 pts (:)).

I like your notes. I like a lot of the prog bands in your list but haven't got many of their albums, so it's always good to have some insight and view points of others. Few artists in common but overall many others that are in my decades lists but never quite hit my top 100

An interesting chart that encapsulates your passion. Nice to see Thick As A Brick at no.1 and also the inclusion of some BEA outliers (Al Stewart, Wishbone Ash). Also good to see a single (latter) Dylan album in there. From your chart I would say we are the same vintage. Wondering if you had any Aussie albums hovering near your top 100?

Very good job with all the comments. It gives an extra value. Also it's easier to understand why you have shoosen the albums you have shoosen and there is no way that I can argue with your choices. Many great British prog albums from the 70's, and not just the obvious ones which I like! I'm not familiar with all of them and have to check some of them out for sure.
