The last 4 tracks of 'Closer', for me, remain the most moving music I have ever heard. How much of that is influenced by what happened to Ian Curtis afterwards and his legacy, who knows, but the counter of that is that if he had not been in such a dark place, he would not have written these tracks in the first place. You simply can't fake this type of sound and whilst I loved New Order, nothing they produced matched that unique Joy Divisions sound. [First added to this chart: 08/23/2010]

Simply the best band of the last 25 years, Radiohead stand on the podium with the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin in producing quality album after quality album. The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A - all masterpieces that quite rightly sit in the top 20 of the overall BEA chart, but 'In Rainbows' is my favourite. Why? I am not sure, just love this record!! Late to the party with Pink Floyd, remember hearing 'Another Brick in the Wall' when I was a teenager and felt it wasn't cutting edge enough for me. Then on flight to Dubai about 10 years, put the headphones and listened to this album and was blown away. It is a seamless piece of music, timeless in its appeal and I probably listen to this album as much as anything else now. The Dark Side of the Moon showed me the light when it cam to appreciating the brilliance of Pink Floyd. [First added to this chart: 08/23/2010]

As a Sussex lad myself for the last 45 years, I can say that The Cure are the best thing to come out of Crwaley (some might say the only good thing!!). They have it all, a dark edge, but a lightness too, very cool, without seemingly taking themselves too seriously and most importantly, they write some fantastic music. My initial introduction to them were the more pop orientated tracks (Love Cats, The Caterpillar), came back to Disintegration later on in life and it is undeniably their peak, not a bad track on the album, the lighter feel of some of the classic tracks like Lullaby and Love Song paving the way for the more dark, brooding sound of Prayers of Rain onwards. Not sure there is anything more to say about The Beatles. From 'Rubber Soul through to 'Abbey Road', 5 classic albums that changed the face of popular music and displayed an inventiveness of sound that is often imitated to this day, rarely matched. Quite simply the best and the most influential band ever and 'Abbey Road' is my favourite of their great albums, flows from start to finish and aside from a couple of singalong duds, contains great tracks throughout, 'Golden Slumbers' being my favourite of all the songs on this record. Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 86.0/100, a mean average of 84.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 86.0/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 11.6.

For me it hits and misses (through my own personal taste, rather than quality of the albums) but I think your top 10 is pretty darn solid. Good chart! :)
