For the record, this ain't my "Greatest Albums" chart as much as my "Favorite Albums" chart... anyways, goddamn do I love this album. There's emotion, there's tongue-in-cheek wit and self-deprecation, there's danciness and creaky piano... every song is just pristine. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2014]

Natalie Portman didn't lie: my life was definitely changed by The Shins. While it lacks a little in consistency, the 'lows' are still high and that makes the highs even higher. Plus, the album closer The Past and Pending is just so damn good, and even the bonus track (Sphagnum Esplanade) is amazing. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2014]

Man, did Dylan Baldi knock it out of the park with this reinvention of his own band. This post-punky masterpiece doesn't have a bad track on it, from almost poppy gems like single Stay Useless and Fall In to the epic 9-minute jam Wasted Days. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2014]

This one, as soon as I heard it, slid right under Madvillainy as my favorite hip-hop album ever. El-P's beats and the atmosphere he creates on this record do so much to set the mood for this almost dystopian album, and the lyrics are definitely no slouch either. This album has pretty much infinite replayability. [First added to this chart: 12/27/2014]

It's THE indie darling album, yes, but it's like that for a reason. The instrumentation? Fantastic in its lo-fi glory (those horns!). The vocals? Teeming with emotion, especially on Oh Comely, which stuns me every time I listen to it. And the lyrics? They'll always be gorgeous and cryptic. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2014]

A record of slow-burners, but not without stellar moments. There's the drop on Dance Yrself Clean, the homely feel of the album closer (Home, of course!), the wonky bridge in You Wanted A Hit that just drives the point home... oh yeah, and Drunk Girls is damn fun. In the same vein as Avalanches in that PLEASE GOD JUST GIVE US ONE MORE ALBUM, these Jersey rockers really put together a gem here. The guitar-driven sound, endearingly lo-fi quality, and wonderful lyrics keep this always listenable. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2014]

"Poetry student in Massachusetts" is probably high up on the list of guesses for "Who Is Sadie Dupuis?" but that doesn't detract from the fact that her lyrics just ARE poetry, and the whole band's 90's-tinged music, whether in major, minor, or both keys (looking at you, Tiger Tank), rocks to a very high degree. 90's pop genius, pretty much. Song For The Dumped is pretty much THE breakup song, tracks like Kate and Battle of Who Could Care Less are just insanely enjoyable and fun, and the piano solos (esp. on the super-blandly-titled One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces) are just soooo good and really show off Folds' talent with the keys. The quintessential pop-punk album, with nary a bad song anywhere (no annoying tracks like Good Riddance or Boulevard! Yaaaaay!). The singles are all stellar, the solos (like both of the drum solos) show off the band's fantastic skills, and there's a song that got Billie Joe Armstrong's girlfriend to dump him and move to Ecuador! WHat more do you want? [First added to this chart: 07/06/2014]
