The bits and pieces McCartney envisioned as song suites somehow worked, and Lennon's singular songs are among his best work. George Harrison's songs show how much he'd progressed into a rival of the band's songwriting team. Abbey Road is a miracle of 1969 modern technology: it sounds as clean as anything coming out today. Produced by Kit Lambert. Despite the flawed storytelling (is the question to ask a deaf dumb and blind pinball wizard really "what makes you so good" rather than "Why pinball???"), Tommy is ambitious and musically amazing. Hard to believe they did this all with just bass, drums, guitar and a French horn. When taken as a whole, this is an absolute gem of an album, with all four members performing at their very best. Don't take the concept too seriously,,,just have fun with it. It's worth the ride. [First added to this chart: 04/11/2012]

Produced by Jimmy Page. The heaviest of all Zeppelin albums, and the strangest one for me (I have not listened to "Whole Lotta Love" all the way through since I was 15...I don't even know why any more). Now that they've properly credited the blues guys they were stealing from back then, there's nothing to be mad at them about anymore, which is why their albums keep climbing my charts. Zeppelin II is powerful stuff, and marks the best of their early work. They were growing fast into the amazing band they are known to be now...this is really amazing.
