As with most DM albums it starts to run out of steam towards the end. 10 tracks instead of 12 would have been better. The other problem with latter day Depeche Mode is the lack of that killer song. They had so many great singles in the eighties and nineties but since the turn of the century those songs seemed to have disappeared. Still, Spirit, is good, and like, Delta machine, is a huge improvement on, Sounds of the universe, but let's be honest here, Depeche Mode are past their best. They may release these sort of, 'not bad but not as good as they used to be' albums like U2 do and REM did towards the end of their career but you know in your heart of hearts that the glory days are well and truly over. The initial 'positive' reaction as always, but it will soon be forgotten. I still like this record but we're never going to get a, Personal Jesus, again. "[+]Reply

It amazes me how well he plays the guitar and how well he arranges most of Dream Theater’s music. The music here is very good. Great string arrangements over some really cool guitar, drums, piano, everything. I don’t see Dream Theater as strictly a metal band. The just make music of all kinds, it just so happens that a lot of it tends to be metal. But they also write very nice ballads, I even recall a song they wrote a while back that had a pretty cool saxophone solo in it. Dream Theater is a great band and this is a great album, definitely worth getting. "[+]Reply

Song topics include children and the loss thereof, historical military, summer vs. winter, sailing, and, of course, lust. And there's plenty of vocabulary, if that's your thing. In addition to big words you already know (obverse, condescend, misbegotten) there's also prevaricate, sibylline, eidolon, and mistral. Most importantly, these are catchy songs. What's not to like? A lot of listens has now fully revealed the record to me and it is a stunning album. The melodies have evolved over a period of time without even changing, which is incredible, and they've opened themselves up to me to present a brilliantly original record. I would now, after an uncertain start, rate this as Simon's best album since, Graceland. Fantastic record. One of the years best. "[+]Reply

These are just a few of the subjects dealt with by this relatively new band on their debut album.
The Murder Capital are Irish - this is important. James McGovern sings with an Irish accent and his thick brogue smears a softness and poeticism/romanticism that has been sorely missing lately.
And then there’s the music, more post-punk than punk, it’s an urgent and intense mix that veers from sky-scraping ferocity to emotionally naked intimacy.
Like Interpol and Bloc Party, they are one of those bands, they love Joy Division but this is no hastily cobbled-together facsimile. Joy Division are an obvious influence, a springboard from which to map their dreams and nightmares.
Get ready, The Murder Capital are slaying."[+]Reply

Overall one of the more consistent and interesting bands in metal today. I look forward to hearing this again. "[+]Reply

As a result, he has delivered his best album since Jacksonville City Nights. However, what the content editor giveth he also taketh away; meaning, sure, you don't have the same eye-rolling messes of song ideas, but you also don't reach the same tear-enducing or guitar-pumping awesome ballads and rockers of his past. Still, I WILL TAKE IT and hope Ryan can build on this as well as his newfound-love of the live performance and his contentment with life in general (as witnessed by covering bryan adams lately)."[+]Reply
"It's a shame that this is ranked so low knowing this is one of the best works of Trent Reznor of all time. Catches everything about his musicality in a very different perspective. I love this soundtrack."Reply
