Top 100 Greatest Music Albums
by elo269megv

Thanks for reading! Any comments or ratings are appreciated! This is my all-time FAVORITE albums list, not necessarily what I believe to be the BEST albums of all time. More like a "what I'd rather listen to lately" list. No limits or restrictions. Just what I like to listen to. This is an ever changing list since the music I listen to is ever changing. Usually update this chart about once a week or so. Needs revising again

This album has grown on me like an infectious disease. It lulls you in with dream-like production and knocks you out with hard hitting, crunchy guitar riffs. No song feels out of place. A perfect blend of heavy metal, shoegaze, dream-pop, gothic rock, & psychedelia. Best played LOUD. This album really means a lot to me. The song writing and lyricism spoke to me in a way nothing else could. Underneath all those heavy, layered guitars was actual delicate feeling and emotion. Its like how I felt on the inside but portrayed on the outside to everyone else. This is my "Life Goes On"... album

I want something new, but what am I supposed to do about you? I love you. It's true.

Most impactful music in my life thus far. First album I ever listened to from start to finish. First album in which I thoroughly enjoyed every song and would refuse to skip a song. I listened to this album nearly everyday for two years. Kid Cudi is my favorite artist of all time and one of the most revolutionary and influential hip-hop artists of the late 2000s and early 2010s.

But toward the end of our first ten years into the millennium we heard a voice.
A voice who was speaking to us from the underground for some time.
A voice who spoke of vulnerabilities and other human emotions
And issues never before heard so vividly and honest.
This is the story of a young man who not only believed in himself,
But his dreams too.
This is the story of The Man On The Moon.

I'm not sure how to describe what this album means to me. I think it's one of the finest piece of art to date. And it was released during a very important time in my life, as well as my (current) favorite decade for music. I didn't discover it until years later but now fully appreciate its artistry and innovation. Great foreshadowing

Where would music be today without Black Sabbath? No metal? No sludge? Where's the darkness? This is the album that introduced me to metal and heavier music in general. Also an album where I discovered dark and frightening themes and visuals can be powerful & beautiful at the same time.

This is one of the finest debut albums to exist. Hard to believe they released Strange Days, my second favorite Doors album, the same year. Every song on this album is fantastic in my opinion. I love Jim Morrison and all, but Ray Manzarek really was the glue of the band. And its hard to believe Robby Krieger wrote a fair number of the hit songs in their discography too.

Very influential album of the late 80s. Inspired the likes of Radiohead and the Smashing Pumpkins. Being less than 40 min in length, this album is a quick listen and rewards every time. The only song I dislike on the album is Silver. I think Kim Deal has an awesome voice, better suited for backing vocals. I can only imagine the glaring looks she got from Black Francis as he stood there not knowing what to do with his mouth. With that being said, I La La Love this album. Frantically unhinged, this is where I fell in love with short/punchy/gritty alternative & indie rock, and my unbeknownst intro to punk

At this point in their career, ELO was releasing albums full of hits where any song from the album could've been a lead single. Mission is about as psychedelic as ELO gets and Shangri-La is a beautiful love song. 4 of the 9 songs on this album are on their greatest hits CD sooo... it's pretty good. Pink Floyd's best album. Two iconic pieces of beautiful, psychedelic prog and three perfectly structured songs that form the body of this masterful album.

I love everything about this album. Starts off dreamy and spacious setting the tone of the album to come with "Up The Beach" and then knocks down the door with face-melt-worthy guitar shredding thanks to Dave Navarro. But it's surprisingly their bass player Eric Avery that sticks out most to me. No song feels out of place on this album. The fusion of different genres is delightful. Definitely a trendsetting album indeed... [First added to this chart: 03/08/2018]

Red Hot Chili Peppers deserve some respect and this album is phenomenal from start to finish with only two weak tracks. This is the album that introduced me to alternative and rock music in general.

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 3% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 89.5/100, a mean average of 90.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 90.4/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.3.

Love your chart - a lot more heavy, alternative and hip-hop than is in mine. But this has given me incentive to listen to these albums. Thanks for providing me with the opportunity.

Fantastic chart! I really like a chart that is subjective like yours, I would like everyone to do it like that instead of trying to do an objective list, which is impossible. And good job on all the comments, they are very interesting!

I'm glad to see you like "One Hot Minute" too, this album is really underrated and Dave Navarro did an amazing job on this album. Now I have to listen to more Smashing Pumpkins...

Lots in common - and yes, One Hot Minute, many have mentioned their dislike for it, but I actually really like it and Navarro is likely my second favorite RHCP's guitarist (Blasphemy! haha).

When I saw we posted our Top 10 of 1991 at the same time, and had six mutual picks, I had to see this list. Great list, dude. I liked reading your comments (before they stopped) and agree with most of them. But what don't you like about One Hot Minute?
