Very Good Plus - Vital Vinyl (Collector's Edition)
by Jimmy Dread

I'm currently in my second phase of buying vinyl, having acquired a fair bit at the start of the 21st Century and only starting again at the start of 2015 when my wife bought me a shiny new turntable. I wonder if she realised what would happen as a result...

Amazingly some of the LPs I've acquired during my last vinyl buying phase and over the last couple of years (either from second hand record shops on the cheap or car boot sales) are now worth a packet. Here's a list of the records I have in my collection which according to Discogs are worth the most. Pour scorn over my taste if you must, or make me an offer (although can't see me selling any of these in a hurry). Just get out your anti-static record cleaner, record brush and micro-fibre cloth and go bananas! All original presses here unless stated/good reason or story behind them - take you coloured 180g represses taken from a CD source and put them on your Crosley Cruiser record player like I imagine some here do. Jimmy, September 2019.

Yahoo.co.jp Auction. Something of a coup. After falling in love with this record trying to find it for a decent price proved a real pain, until one day I spied it on a Japanese auction site for a reasonable price. Luckily a good friend of mine has a Japanese wife and family in Nagasaki, so I asked her to put a bid on. The expected bidding war never materialised, I got it for about 1/8 of the price Discogs hawkers are selling it for, and had to have my photo taken opening said parcel when it finally arrived to send back to Japan to show my (obvious) delight. Record Shop (Collectors, Guildford). Some poetic justice here. I first heard Spoon through my mate Richard who used to work in a record shop near the bus station where I used to spend virtually every lunch break between 2004-6. Although it's not particularly well thought of when put up against the rest of their output, Telephono was always the one Spoon LP I prized above all others. So it was with some degree of surprise that I found it for sale in the very same shop that Richard used to work, sitting right at the front of the 'S' section. It later transpired that this was in fact Richard's own copy which he'd sold back to the shop. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2016]

Record Shop (Spiral Archive, Northampton). Blue vinyl version of this oft-overlooked Irish indie-rock masterpiece, picked up in amazing nick for 1/10th of what the sharks on Discogs are selling it for. [First added to this chart: 01/23/2016]

Discogs. The last Field Mice LP I managed to track down, and also the most valuable. Although it contains half the tracks that are on Snowball and a couple that are on Skywriting (both of which I also own), it's got perhaps one of my top 5 all-time tracks on it in "Sensitive", and considering the 7" with that on goes for £50 on its own it made picking this up a no-brainer. Discogs. Having owned an original Spirit Of Eden for many years (I picked it up in a charity shop in the early 00s for a quid, although never listened to it until about 2015), I'd been after a copy of Laughing Stock to complement it for some time. I'd almost given up trying until I saw it listed for a reasonable sum, which upon doing I e-mailed the guy selling it to see if I could knock him down a little. A fiver off and a botched Royal Mail delivery later (postie left it out in the pouring rain, luckily guy had packed it in PVC sleeve which kept the water off) and it was mine. Record Shop (Sound Machine, Reading). Been on the wantlist for some time so imagine my surprise when I found it sitting in a well-stocked Indie 12" singles box for next-to-nowt. Also bought a copy of Seamonsters from the same box which I sold onto a guy in Australia for a tidy profit. [First added to this chart: 12/28/2016]

Very cool find with the Skatalites. Quite a few other gems I'd love to have. Fantastic concept. Might just do my own.

Great chart idea. I'd love to own any of these. Oddly enough I don't. That's also my least favorite Spiritualized record. Love that you have Belly's Star. That album seems to be one loved by folks who were around when it came out, but the kids don't know how good it is.
