Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by limowreck_69 (2018)

« View previous chartView next chart »

All of these albums I have played half to death- except Some Girls by Rolling Stones, I just threw that in coz i really like Miss You- so this list is quite personal to me, I've also tried to include a wide range of artists. One thing about this chart is that I haven't included any Beatles albums, this is because I'm sick of seeing them dominating everyone's top 10. While I can appreciate the huge impact they have made on music I can't help but see them as the equivalent of the monkey at the beginning of the evolution timeline- Beatles wrote simple songs with simple rhythms and simple melodies- and I think music evolved into something much more. Just my opinion. If you think I have any other omissions then f### you, this is MY list of what I consider to be the best ever albums.

The Holy BibleUnited Kingdom Manic Street Preachers
In describing this album, a lot of critics have said that there is quite a strong contrast between Richey's lyrics, and the music, and that lyrically it is incredibly heavy but the music isn't so much. I would competely disagree, James Dean Bradfield has clearly wrote the album looking at Richey's lyrics, and his deteriorating mental state has had a massive affect on how this whole album sounds. Because of this combination between deep lyrics and music, I would even go as far as to say that it is the heaviest album ever-it is heavy in a way that no metal album is. In other words, not an easy listen.

AudioslaveUnited States Audioslave
There's probably a more intellectual way i can describe this album rather than "fu#*ing brilliant" so I'll try. The way that each song builds up to the riff and the chorus is incredible and literally feels like adrenaline is being pumped into you- perhaps with the exception of "getaway car" which is a brilliant relaxing cotrast to the rest of the songs on the album. The lyrics are amazing and the riffs are explosive. This RATM and Soundgarden crossover has got to be the best supergroup album ever.

Some CitiesUnited Kingdom Doves
A painfully underrated masterpiece, on my first listen to this album, some 7 years ago, once I got past the first two tracks the rest of the album seemed to me like background music, but then as I gave the whole CD repeated listens, one by one each track began to leap out to me to show its incredible and subtle beauty, and I finally saw how incredible this piece of work was. If you think 2005 was a bad year for music, go listen to this album. If you think the 2000s were a bad decade for music, go listen to this album, and trust me, your patience will be rewarded.

...And Justice For AllUnited States Metallica
Metallica's first album without Cliff Burton, and Jason Newstead doesn't really get much of a chance to fill his boots, no space for a slick bassline like we heard before on "Orion" or in all honesty any space for him to be heard at all- I would definitely recommend tapping "And justice for Jason" into youtube to hear what could've been! But despite this lack of interesting bass this album still sounds amazing, and the other members were clearly on form, it has some really nice guitar work and the drumming is superb, resulting in each song sound awesome, "One" is up there with the greatest songs ever written.

Having comments against albums always adds to the enjoyment for me so thanks for that. I'm not a Beatles fan either but they did some great music but it's your chart and you have to respect peoples choices.

Really nice chart with some good commentary. And a lot of good albums. I just bought Number of the Beast, I like that album and many albums on here. Holy Bible is heavy you are right. I have to be in the right mood to listen to it.

I am one of those people with multiple Beatles albums in his top ten. Guilty as charged. But I accept that some people don't like the Beatles. Two of my closest friends don't like 'em and I am a mega-fan. But diversity is a good thing. It would be damn boring if we all agreed and all liked the same thing.

    I enjoyed reading your chart.

So I came here expecting to see an awful chart b/c MMLP is so high on it (as I learned from the MMLP page which I planned to troll some more). I was just curious what other trash someone who likes MMLP might like.

However, I briefly considered apologizing for this false assumption upon seeing your chart but knew I was too lazy for such a thing and wouldn't have even commented at all if not for that ridiculous Beatles commentary. Bah, now that I'm here, w/e, sorry for the bad assumption. I was wrong, I admit it. Anyway....

Show me another band with music as varying as "Love You To," "Hey Bulldog," "For No One," "Helter Skelter," "Glass Onion," "Revolution," "Eleanor Rigby," "A Day In The Life," "I Want You (She's So Heavy)," "Yer Blues," and yes the simple stuff like "Can't Buy Me Love." No other band has this much variety. Anyone who's never heard those songs wouldn't believe they're from the same band if they heard them all right now. To believe it and call them "simple"?

MAYBE I'd believe you actually were familiar with them and were just a pretentious cock if your list was full of classical and jazz, but as it is? DUDE, YOUR CHART IS FULL OF BANDS THAT ARE NOWHERE NEAR AS COMPLEX AS THE BEATLES.

The Beatles invented multiple styles and to this day have only been rivaled by Radiohead. You're out of your mind if you can listen to all of those songs and think for a second that this is a "simple band with simple melodies."

They must've utilized every instrument at some point, to near perfection at that. You've never heard Revolver, Abbey Road, Sgt Peppers, Rubber Soul, Magical Mystery Tour, Let It Be, The White Album, Help, A Hard Day's Night... how many classic albums does 1 band need? They comprise 60% of our overall top 5 for a reason.

Nobody truly dislikes the Beatles, you're being willfully ignorant or trolling or trying some edgy fad that you'll hopefully grow out of. Listen to those songs already and see if you can back up your statements. You have "verse, chorus, verse, chorus" structured s*&^ in your chart and call the Beatles simple, get out of here.
