Top 100 Greatest Music Albums
by pjohnsongolf Unknown

This is my current Top 100 albums. My taste evolves daily, and it is often difficult to keep my chart up to date.

Edit* As of 3/18/21 this will be limited to 1 album per artist

P.S. I am trying to make this as diverse as possible. (So there isn't a billion prog, Weezer, and Radiohead albums)

Favorite Track- Only In Dreams

Weezer was one of the first bands I obsessed over when I first decided to get into music. I go back and forth between this and Pinkerton but Blue always hits home. I am so much emotion attached to this album.

Favorite Track - I Would Hurt a Fly

I read a story about someone calling this not an album but a phenomenon. This truly is that. This is Indie rock perfection combining of post rock and emo with plenty of psychedelic jam sessions throughout. The songs are all drawn out more than traditional length but leave you wanting them to never end. This is proof that some great things can come out of Idaho.

Favorite Track - Cowboy Dan

You'll start to see a trend of indie rock albums throughout my chart. Modest Mouse brings such great energy and passion on here that makes one of Indie rocks finest gems.

Favorite Track - Feeling Yourself Disintegrate

This is a band that came to me at the right time. I had listened to them in the past yet felt underwhelmed by what I heard. I enjoyed Yoshimi from playing Rock Band as a younger child but this album especially seemed boring. One day I was traveling to Coeur D' Alene and decided to give it another try while driving through forest of Montana and upper Idaho. I then felt the emotion of this record as I gave it my full attention. I became entranced by Wayne's voice and psychedelic sounds throughout. I then could not stop listening to this record. Months later they came to a show in Ogden Utah which fed my love for them even more. Hearing Feeling Yourself Disintegrate live and the jam session that followed was a spiritual experience for me.

Favorite Track - When You Sleep

One of the albums that really altered my perception of music. Underneath the heavy layers upon layers of sounds are some of the most beautiful pop melodies ever written. Kevin Shields was a genius and his band put together a genre defining masterpiece.

As post rock as become one of my favorite genres this has become one of my favorite albums. That combined with emo leaves us with one of the most unique albums ever.

Favorite Track- Pennyroyal Tea

I used to be a Nirvana hater. I thought they were incredibly overrated and boring. Then I actually started to listen to Nirvana and became a huge fan. To me In Utero is raw and true Nirvana.

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 1% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 91.5/100, a mean average of 92.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 92.7/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.2.

I like the 1 artist rule as it gives breadth to your chart. Also like that you have discovered Australian artists - your selections are great! We only have 2 albums in common - Grace & Remain In Light - but given that I could be your granddad, I wouldn't expect anything different. Enjoy & embrace your musical journey through life - it will always bring rich rewards.

Flower Boy is not better than Igor, but I really like this list anyways. Very eclectic and reflects your taste very well.
Edit: I love all the picks and the Injury Reserve inclusion really sold me on this chart!!!!
