There was nothing in either of Cinderella's first two albums that would indicate that they were any different (or better) than the multitudes of hair metal bands. They did have the biggest hair, and Tom Keifer wailed painfully with the rest. But in 1990, they released their 3rd album, Heartbreak Station...and it's one of the genres better records. The wail and the power ballads are still here, but Cinderella brings more than that to the table...songs. That and an ability to play roots music better than any of their peers. "Shelter Me", "The More Things Change", and the title track were hits, and the album holds up surprisingly well despite all of the AquaNet. A shocker of a good set from one of metal's worst offenders. Yes...recommended! This album puts Skid Row, Warrant and LA Guns squarely in their place.
They didn't keep it up...their follow up album was another dud, and Cinderella faded into hair band legend. But for one record...they were pretty damn good. [First added to this chart: 10/22/2024]
