"I'm no expert on soul music but my initial impression after listening to this a couple of times is that this is possibly the most powerful soul singing I've ever heard. It brings that gospel fervour to secular music and is so full of unbridled emotion it's incredible. I love the fact you can hear..."  [+]  Reply

"Fashionable to bash (even though I didn't think Phil really lost it until But Seriously when he got too AC) but if you were there in 1985, you know you owned a copy. And there are some solid tracks here even if Sussudio wasn't a career highlight."  Reply

"I met Suzanne briefly when she came to play at Kent State. I was friends with her brother Tim. It was pretty exciting, even though there were radio transmissions coming through her equipment that she complained bitterly about. I would have forgotten all about this album without that experience. E..."  [+]  Reply

"This was a great reinvention, from changing his name to changing his lyrical depth. I think it has become customary to dismiss JCM as a redneck and even (very mistakenly!) an overly patriotic conservative. Anyone who thinks along those lines needs to listen more closely. This is far more intellig..."  [+]  Reply

"idk why early sonic youth is so underrated, i find it more amusing than the most famous albums the mixing of this album is great, though confusing as songs begins one minute into the previous one. the soundscape is genius love it, my key to be a SY fan"  Reply

"82-87 isn't 5 years, it's 6 years, count them. 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87. so it's 8 records full of "noisy trash-songs" in SIX years! it's interesting though how the lowest rating comes from a guy who comments like that, you know this must be good stuff! I don't know what the "unhelpful" votes were ..."  [+]  Reply

"A good follow up to, Diamond life. Promise, is a much more jazzy affair than it's predecessor with the use of brass much more prominent. Nice performances on this perfect late night, lights down album. Very good."  Reply
