Top 50 Greatest Music Albums by Jesper
My chart... There's two live albums and one compilation in here, as they represent to me a sort of pinnacle in the archetypical sound of the artists.
While some artists feature with multiple albums in this chart, I tried to present the chart as varied as possible.
It includes a couple of the rock standards (Zeppelin IV, Wish You Were Here, OK Computer, Synchronicity, Abbey Road), as well as albums that have broadened the edges of sound innovation (Remain in Light, Gabriel IV, Kid A, The Man-Machine, Low, Hounds of Love, Passion). Furthermore, it also includes those albums where an epic vision truly worked, rather than inflated on itself as so many of the type did (Lamb Lies Down, Quadrophenia, Close to the Edge). Then, there is those albums that have focused on more specific types of moods, and totally succeed in that (Hats, Within the Realm of..., Moon Safari, American Beauty, Silent Shout, Oxygene). To conclude, there's a number of albums in there that are not entirely ground-breaking or even considered among the greatest of all-time, but are extremely solid and so often played in my house that it would be wrong to exclude them from this chart.

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 78.0/100, a mean average of 72.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.7/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 14.9.

Solid prog chart. Any chart that top ten's Quadrophenia is good. Intersting YES picks.
"Security" (or Peter Gabriel 4) is my favorite Peter Gabriel album, almost made my list..also "Close to the Edge" was one of my favorites in high school. and Thomas Newman is one of my favorite soundtrack composer.."Fried Green Tomatoes", "The War", "Shawshank Redemption", and "Green Mile"...I made a mix tape of his soundtracks. nice chart
Wow! Peter Gabriel's my all-time favorite artist and I used to have all the Genesis albums. I feel a lot of similar tastes with your list but it's a bit lacking in the more "modern" stuff. But a pretty good list overall anyway.
Not a bad list, pretty consistent, and nice to see the ubiquitous inclusion of The Beatles/Radiohead/Led Zeppelin taking a back seat to albums that are more personal. However, doesn't have enough 'edge' for my liking (and I don't mean that U2 guitarist, it has a plethora of him).
A decent list. You're obviously a prog fan, like myself. Found a couple of albums I'll have to check out as well, so thanks for that.
