To me, Janis will always be the perfect woman. She gave everything she had, every time she went on stage. Her songs and her voice were a perfect combination of soul and rock, and she was able to make you feel just the way she did. On "Move Over" she is rough and tough, but on "A Woman Left Lonely" she is so vulnerable and delicate as any little girl. And "Me And Bobby McGee" is an amazing journey through the 60's counterculture. [First added to this chart: 10/10/2013]

Donna Summer gained fame with "Love To Love You Baby", but with this essential Disco-release, she made sure everyone knew, that she was, and still is, the Queen of Disco. "Hot Stuff" is a Disco/Rock anthem for which is won the grammy for Best Rock Vocal, "Bad Girls" is a very danceable beat with whistles, horns, clapping, and streetwise backup-singers. The album also contains the dimmed gem "Dim All the Lights" and the minor hit "Walk Away". A great Soundtrack for a night out. [First added to this chart: 05/13/2014]

The uncrowned queen of Funk. She made hardcore Funk/Rock that was too controversial and sexualized, she made the men go mad for her and she was always in control. One of the greatest Funk-albums ever, unfortunately not very succesul when first released, but with todays eyes and ears it's just perfect. [First added to this chart: 05/14/2014]

With a powerful and raspy contralto and great backing band - Koko Taylor really does have what it takes. "Voodoo Woman" is rough and both funky and bluesy, while "Find a Fool" is almost bordering to soul. Miss Taylot is full of sass, power and blues on this album. [First added to this chart: 10/10/2013]

Grymer, you've got stuff good stuff on here. I see you like blues and motown a lot, and you really like the lady singers.
In fact, you had Janis Joplin at #1, so, I'd like to recommend someone to you that I think you will love, Susan Tedeschi (now of the Tedeschi Trucks Band). Check out her album called "Just Won't Burn". Her voice sounds like an incredible combination of Janis Joplin's and Bonnie Raitt's. She does a couple of covers, including "Mama He Treats Your Daughter Mean" (also sung by Koko Taylor), "Little By Little", and "Angel From Montgomery". Her originals are really good too: "Rock Me Right", "It Hurt So Bad" (if you love Janis Joplin, you will love this), "Friars Point", and "You Need To Be With Me". If you give it a listen, let me know how you like it.

A very nice list! Heavy on the ladies (refreshing to see) and full of artists who evoke genuine emotion.
