A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

This is in progress. It's up to date from 1960-1988.
I'm listening through one year's worth of albums each week until I reach the present day. So that's why there's nothing on the chart post 1988; I want to be systematic.

I like this list, quite a bit in common. It's unusual to see so much rap mixed in with 60's staples like Abbey Road and Highway 61, that's quite a range of taste.
