Top 30 Greatest Music Albums
by Hendri Unknown

Slowly but surely making something out of this.

My way of listening albums is a very slow proces. It takes at least 2-3 months before I can make a decent judgement, often it lasts way longer. I have listened to almost all of the albums on this list for at least more than a year.
I only put a work in this list if it absolutely stands out to me as something special.

I am always open for comments or recommendations!

I know that this is the number one album on this site, but cannot do anything else than put it here.
Before listening this one I had already realised that good music isn't too often the songs that are rated high in the charts of today. I didn't know where to look though. A friend of mine recommended me this album. After some time it really connected. It made me discover a whole new world. Today listening to this album still is one of the best experiences music can give me. It provides such a variety. I have never found an album with a sound quite like this.

Picking a favorite track is really difficult as every song individually consists of so many highlights already.

1. Exit music (for a film): The end of this song...
2-12: I don't know man, just way too hard to choose.

Oh no, not another radiohead album! I know, right?
When compared to OK Computer the sound is a bit less distinctive. But that's just about the only thing. It really is a superb record that makes emotions flow everywhere.

This album is one of the reasons I love guitars. In my opinion the best grunge tracks are found right here.
Although I feel that calling this only grunge is not quite right. It offers a wider variety with beautiful tracks like Disarm and Luna.

The voice of Elizabeth Fraser, the instrumentals, ... It all makes it sound mystical and familiar at the same time. So addictive! The whole world around me becomes this beautiful, dreamy place.

This album made me investigate a lot of dreamy stuff. Started listening to it without really knowing what to expect. Just by pretty much looking at the cover I decided to give this a try. I instantly realised that this was something special.

Some years ago, when music of Radiohead was pretty much all I cared about, I was always looking for some band that would sound similar. A bit later I listened to this album. When I found out that this inspired Radiohead for The Bends, I wasn't surprised. We must have missed quite a bit by not getting to hear more Buckly.

Let me explain why I admire this album by using the track F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.O.V.E.
The song starts starts of with a beautiful atmospheric part. That and the lyrics suck you in. And when this awesome hook breaks through, you cannot but relate to the story that is told and let it touch you.
The explanation above highlights the key elements of this album for me: great atmosphere, really interesting lyrics and oh so catchy melodies.

Hurry up!
Kidding of course. Love the fact that you're willing to put in the hard yards before committing to an album's full assessment. It means you aren't someone who just likes the catchy, superficial stuff. As such, you're rating of OKC suggests that you have felt the full depths of its genius just as I have.

Hey, thanks for the comments. You've got a great mix of albums here. It's hard to find fault with anyone who's got Cocteau Twins and Radiohead in the mix.
