Top 40 Greatest Music Albums
by PMilleryKnave

I was unaware before starting this chart that I would be unable to have more than 40 entries at this stage, and as it happens I made a rule to not add second albums by the same artist until I had filled it with a more diverse array of certainties. My musical tastes lean towards 1960s and 1970s rock predominantly but I enjoy a wide variety of genres as well. All of these albums would certainly feature in a top 100 list, though they are not in any particular order here yet.

It's very hard for me to even make a top 100 albums, let alone determine what order they'd be in. However, it is an easy decision to have this album in my top ten. Few albums have had the profound emotional impact on me that this one has, or have touched into the anxieties and confusions of life. The instrumentation, singing and lyrics could not be improved; they are perfect. [First added to this chart: 11/28/2017]

Clapton's finest achievement? One of the best guitar albums ever? One of the best blues-rock albums ever? Yes, yes, and yes. It almost merits a place here on account of the title track alone, but the fact that every other song is utterly fantastic certainly does not hurt its case for a very high ranking. At this point it's almost cliche to acknowledge how cliched it is to think this is one of the best albums ever made, but I will do so anyway. Once upon a time I thought this album was more highly acclaimed than it perhaps deserved, but now I would find it very hard to argue that this is not the Beatles' best-made album (if perhaps not always my favourite). Led Zeppelin were the second band I fell in love with, after the Beatles. It's probably no coincidence that I started getting into their stuff around the onset of puberty! This is I think their best album, partly because it covers such varied musical terrain, but also simply because it features some of my favourite songs of theirs, including of course the superb Kashmir. I once read a Robert Christgau review where he argued The Who Sell Out is their only truly great album, but for me it's Who's Next. I don't think any other of theirs would make it into my top 100, in fact, but this album is certainly top 10 material. It's a perfect album in my book and I adore every song. Even the John Entwistle track is the best he wrote for them. [First added to this chart: 11/28/2017]
