My Favorite Albums by Boltzmann

“I hate people who don’t like what they like” ~Tyler, The Creator

Sometimes when I'm working on this chart I feel like I'm deliberately trying to make it as bad as possible.

Just my own taste, and one album per artist.

Although I really enjoy the other albums, I feel more personally attached to this one. It has had more influence than people expected (look at Justice, Gesaffelstein, and the electro punk of M.I.A. and Death Grips), and it was hated basically because they didn’t do what people expected them to do. And I think - however counterintuitive - this album is the most daft punk of them all. They stripped down to the essentials of their image: heavy vocoder usage, drum machines, and most importantly repitition. And I don’t want to sound like a daft purist, but this is why this album will only be understood by real fans.

I love the sarcastic cynicism of this absurd, postmodern masterpiece. It tries its best to be a piece of trash, just like the people its lyrics describe. And ultimately it succeeds to bring constructive criticism to its generation, because - in contrast to all the grumpy grandpas (by age or by heart) - you can hear Josh doesn't hate his generation; he loves it for all its pretentiously non-pretentious shits and giggles.

At first glance doesn't differ much from your average early 00's adult contemporary (Kelly Clarkson for instance) or a Fearless part two, but I feel this one somehow.

You've got a lot of good electronic albums that have been almost forgotten about for some reason. Like Orbital, Chromeo. Chemical Bros, Mr. Fingers, Moloko, Tears for Fears. Even Daft Punk Homework and deadmau5 you never hear about anymore. I also like how you got the Chic album and Enya. Excellent albums.
