If you have looked at my charts, you'll see that my charts for the past 30 years are far more sparse than the '60s, '70s, and '80s. I need to listen to more music from over the years, but part of the issue is that I really don't enjoy the newer music I hear near as much as stuff from back in the day, whereas I have listened to music which is new to me from those older eras over the years and found it better than the more recent stuff. This is the nearly singular exception - my favorite album of the past 30 years, quite easily. They just achieve a level of resonance over the full course of this long play that no one else whom I have heard has matched in that time period. To my ears, this is underrated, in spite of the praise it does receive. I think its reputation has been hurt by how spotty and generally inferior their subsequent material is. Five stars, of course.

I remember back in the fall of 2002 how I would listen to "Clocks" again, and again, and again, and it didn't get old. Most of the rest of the album is pretty sweet, too. They begin their nosedive on the next album, but in between, they wrote "Moses," which was featured on their live collection - the song that inspired me to pick up a guitar and try to learn to play it. I haven't succeeded over the years, but I've enjoyed the attempt. Anyway, 4.5 stars.
