In my opinion, The Wall features examples of everything that makes a rock album great. I believe that 'The Wall' contains the most coherent story ever given through a rock opera (compared to 'Tommy' and 'American Idiot', whose stories are relatively vague), with very little filler and songs linking together fantastically. The themes touched upon in this album are very wide reaching and though they may not be as universal as the themes of money, time and death covered in 'The Dark Side of the Moon', by following the life of 'Pink', we cover issues that many of us face, such as overprotective parenting, the British (and to an extent the worldwide) education system, isolation, growing up, divorce and madness. Throughout the 80 minutes of this record, we complete a journey, growing up with 'Pink' and the characters portrayed by Gilmour and Waters are 'acted' brilliantly. Aside from the story, we are treated to some of the best songs in Pink Floyd's catalogue, including 'Comfortably Numb', 'Mother' and 'Run Like Hell', not to mention the 1979 UK Christmas Number 1, 'Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 2', which has became an anti-establishment anthem, so much so that it was banned in South Africa in 1980, as the song became the anthem of a national strike. This album, in my opinion, is flawless. Perhaps my only disappointment is that it is missing some of the long instrumentals of early Pink Floyd, though the continuous nature of the album results in it essentially being four 20 minute long songs.

I don't think that there's anything that I can say about this album that hasn't already been said. It took me a while to get into it, like Radiohead in general, but once I began to get it... wow! Pretty much every track has been my favourite at some point and it is probably the most consistent album ever.

Another amazingly consistent album, showing the heavy and light sides of the Stones. While Let It Bleed contains the best hits ("Gimme Shelter", "You Can't Always Get What You Want") and Exile on Main St provides the greatest variety, Sticky Fingers manages to say everything it needs to in a consise single album, with some of Mick Taylor's best guitar work and absolutely zero filler.

Often overlooked in favour of Roger's output with Pink Floyd, along with OK Computer, this is probably one of the most prophetic albums of the nineties, perfectly capturing the influence of television, consumerism and almost forseeing the influence of the internet. A worthy sucessor to The Wall, The Final Cut and Pros and Cons.

One of the few non-conceptual double albums that manages to keep the listener enthralled from start to end. This album seems to build from Highway 61 and produce some of the best lyrics that Bob Dylan has ever written, benefitting from the ability to fit in those longer tracks.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 9% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 88.2/100, a mean average of 89.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 89.4/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 7.6.

Absolutely fantastic collection of albums here.

Completely agree about your comment on my Top 100 about similar music tastes. Have not seen many similar charts to my music taste either so was great to see a list like yours.

Have not been to see Godspeed live yet due to living in the UK, but am hoping to catch them in the next couple of months when they come over here as I can only imagine how good it would be!

Have been meaning to listen to Roger Waters solo work and looking at your list has giving me the push to do so as you rate his albums so highly. Excited to see how your chart develops over time!

16 albums in common. Not bad, when it's out of 35. I dig The Wall, DSOTM and my favourite Wish You Were Here. Floyd did many masterpieces. Also love Dylan and the Beatles. I like Eminem a lot too, although I only have one of his albums' on my Top 100, Marshall Mathers LP. But I have more of his on my decade charts. Yes, a very good chart, despite its brevity. Good notes too.

Really good chart. I like the track ranking feature although I can't believe some of your choices for the lowest pick e.g 'Leopard Skin...' and 'Queen Bitch' which are some of my favs but I agree with 'Dr. Robert' though on Revolver, always thought it was a weaker track.
