Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by TerryTezza

This is my Top 100 chart which is based on albums I have grown up with and have discovered later in life and been played many times. The albums I choose are based on it working well from start to finish and with a theme is a bonus. There is also that element of magic and journey I look for in an album too throughout. There are many artists that I would love to include but lack that album that captures me throughout and some albums that are not highly recognised that I feel are underrated

This is the most underrated album by critics from my point of view and have seen shared views from many others online. It is a brilliant album full of great raw rock songs with some calm pop songs too. A concept album on living in a small town in America and questioning the American dream with topics on serving in the army to drug addiction to relationships of optimism and heartache to self doubt. Songs like For Reasons Unknown, Read My Mind to the more raw rock songs of When You Where Young and Uncle Johnny, this album is a classic but it takes a number of listens to appreciate. To me this is R.E.M.'s most dark and complete and varied album about society focusing more on human behaviour than the political and environmental tracks on other albums. From Drive and Try Not To Breath, Everybody Hurts, Monty Got A Raw Deal and even the political Ignoreland to Find The River. Brilliant work! [First added to this chart: 06/17/2019]

This album captured my attention with it’s diverse topics from questioning our purpose and taking responsibility of the environment. The song Orange Crush got me into R.EM. but my fav track on this album is World Leader Pretend. [First added to this chart: 06/17/2019]

What a grand entrance these lads made with there self titled album. The album is awesome from the strong opening of Break On Through to the magical The Crystal ship and to the hit song Light My Fire and to the disturbing bit clever long tale song, The End. Recommended to all who love music and like a great variety in one album that sill works. [First added to this chart: 06/17/2019]

This album is great from start to finish with great music and attitude on questioning yourself, relationships and rebounding from mistakes. Tracks like Supervixen and nly Happy When It Rains are adrenaline magic along with the calmer tracks like Milk. To me this album is Garbage at their best! [First added to this chart: 06/17/2019]

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 10% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 87.8/100, a mean average of 88.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 88.7/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.3.

Finally, an Aussie brother in arms. Of course I love you putting Australian music where it rightly belongs - in a greatest 100 chart. Enjoyed seeing Simple Minds at #1 - nice move. My only reservation re your chart (& it is entirely a personal one) is that giving 50% of valuable chart space to only 12 artists somewhat limits the exploration & appreciation of 60+ years of modern music across the planet, including other exceptional Australian artists (eg The Church, Alex Lloyd, Living End, Black Sorrows...). That said, your loyalty to the artists you most admire is to be admired & respected.

Good Chart . I still love the Simple Minds. Nobody seem to know that even their recent albums are quite good.
