Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

Really cool top 40, I'm eagerly waiting for 100. Swordfishtrombones, Louder Than Bombs and Gorillaz debut are all very positive surprises, great albums!

Love the idea of Pelican West in someone's top 100. It only made it as far as my 80s chart, but maybe that'll change. Also happy to see Remedy and 10 cc. And I'm glad someone else knows that Blue is not Joni Mitchell's best album by a long shot. I've also got 2 by her in my top 100. Hissing and Court n Spark. But Hejira is equal to those.
