Top 100 Music Albums of the 1980s
by mrmcrook

The 80's was the decade when a lot of premium metal came out. It was the time when I was obsessed with it. My tastes expanded in future years but overall the albums of the heavier nature put out during this time massively dominate this list.

I realize my chart has a few compilations and many people believe compilations shouldn't count. I'm slowly weening them out as I discover an artists superior studio albums

Any footnotes are just personal ramblings for my own entertainment.
And to remind me of the joy the music brings before all memory is erased.

My top 100 from the 188 albums from the 80's I own

90.00* Massively underrated. Every song great earworm and catchy. Great follow up to 'Back in Black'. It gave me a bit of faith in Brian. Then it turned a bit shit and was all downhill after this. No weak tracks on this at all. Worthy to have in a collection [First added to this chart: 10/02/2020]

87.50 Rediscovered this after 30 years lost. Raw hard pub rock. If the production was better this would be an ultimate classic. Every song a gem. [First added to this chart: 10/02/2020]

85.41 The better of all commercial rock to come out. This oozes cool. It has a edge and finesse that most other commercial bands fail in achieving. Loaded with shit hot tracks. [First added to this chart: 05/25/2024]

82.50 This is one of those albums I totally thrashed back in the day. But unlike a lot of other heavily rotated albums from the past, I think I over saturated myself with this. I rarely listen to it these days and it no longer hits me like it used to. But on saying that, you can't dispute it's a fucking great album full of fucking great songs. (Still not as good as any Bon Scott though) [First added to this chart: 10/02/2020]

80.62 Always enjoy Nick Cave. This one took a bit longer than usual to grow on me. It's a dark jazzy gothic storytellers album. It was due to the jazz element that it took time to gel, but now it gets better every time I listen to it. It's down the list on my most preferred albums from him, but it's still a fucking great album. That just shows the caliber of the man. Top notch musician. [First added to this chart: 10/02/2020]

77.72 One of the most decent of any synth rock. Got this when it first out. It's aged well as still as good today as it was back then, in fact I probably appreciate it more now. Consistent. Only tails off on the last couple of songs. [First added to this chart: 10/02/2020]
