Top 40 Greatest Music Albums ratings
Average Rating = (n ÷ (n + m)) × av + (m ÷ (n + m)) × AVwhere:
av = trimmed mean average rating an item has currently received.
n = number of ratings an item has currently received.
m = minimum number of ratings required for an item to appear in a 'top-rated' chart (currently 10).
AV = the site mean average rating.

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 78.9/100, a mean average of 72.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.0/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 22.0.

Very nice chart, give us top 100 soon
Pretentious nonsense. Pretentious user. You should've stayed 9 years old. Your taste is narrow and boring, and your attitude sucks.
great music,
but the chart is too short and too redundant for me.
great list
To be fair, chrisware is not the only one on this site (past or present) that approaches his musical taste and knowledge in an arrogant way. He's also not the first to resort to trite insults and ageism. It's sad when older members behave immaturely - shouln't wisdom result in rising above all that? I struggle to see what he aims to achieve on this site. Insulting another member's taste is bound to get a negative response...
That said, I kinda agree with the others. Your chart is OK (U2 and the Smiths are decent bands, and I really like Springsteen), but it is limited in scope. Good music was made after 1995. There's also great music in other genres besides rock. I'd like to see your decade charts.
I think the fact that he looks at things so subjectively and then claims his chart to be objectively ranked, plus the fact that he hypocritically degrades users for their lack of diversity and clarity. Also, he fails to see what mistakes he's making and tries to demean other users by being patronizing and patriarchal; he seems like the guy you just wouldn't like to meet for a coffee break. Considering this is a vast community where people can openly comment on issues, and he is taking this in the worst manner possible, he should just reconsider actually utilizing this site.
Anyway, his chart's perfectly fine, he's just a pain in the arse.
Sampling is not musical plagiarism. If it is then so is collage.
I think I've found my new least favourite user. You are repulsively smug, hypocritical, and wrong about basically everything you have said about the nature of music and reality in general. This is a site where people post lists of the music they most enjoy, for reasons based entirely on their own criteria. That's what most people mean when they say a particular album is the "best", assuming they aren't condescending douche-turds.
In regards to an argument you made earlier, someone liking Justin Beiber as much as The Smiths is an absolutely valid viewpoint. The idea of that experience being "invalid" isn't even a coherent idea. ppnw did a pretty good job of summarizing your misconceptions about objectivity in art, so I guess I'll leave it there.
