Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 85.1/100, a mean average of 83.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 84.9/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 18.4.

A very interesting chart indeed.

Two major surprises are Washington Phillips and the Crass – neither of whom I have seen before on an all-time chart before. Ksiezyc (would always wish to be able to write those diacritics as they must be) is another interesting one where I always feel I should be listening again.

Van der Graaf Generator and Amon Düül II’s ‘Yeti’ are from a more personal perspective equally refreshing.

I do wonder why five Tim Buckley albums are needed, though.

I like the diversity of the genres in your list. Your hardcore punk picks are also just perfect!

Docked a few points for being on the short side, but I can't wait to see your other 50 choices

Some good stuff in here, and some things out of left field, plus stuff I've never heard of. Makes for a good list!

Man, 18 albums in common - and your chart only has 50 albums! Plus, you can't imagine how happy I am to see Dialoghi del Presente in that position.

At first I was like "Scaruffi!" But then I was like "the new Swans??? I must keep reading!" Sweet list dude. I personally like The Seer better of the two. Haven't listened to that James Carr album in a while. Thanks for reminding me about it!
