Top 100 Greatest Music Albums
by beech11985
My Top 25...and beyond Favorite Albums. Just for clarification, this is my own personal favorite albums list, not what I, or the music world, consider the best albums ever. Also, I tend to give more recognition to great albums, not just average albums with a few great songs on them. Anyways, enjoy!

Top 100 Greatest Music Albums ratings
Average Rating = (n ÷ (n + m)) × av + (m ÷ (n + m)) × AVwhere:

n = number of ratings an item has currently received.
m = minimum number of ratings required for an item to appear in a 'top-rated' chart (currently 10).
AV = the site mean average rating.

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 84.8/100, a mean average of 84.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 84.6/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 9.6.

Great chart! I like that you've included The Rolling Stones' Tattoo You...that one always gets overlooked.

This is a great chart, good mix through the decades and stacked full of classic albums.

Very cool chart, Lovin' the Neil Young, Lou Reed and Velvet Underground and the mighty Stones. Many albums I would have on my own chart if I had more room. Especially good to see Rock n Roll Animal, one of my favourite Lou Reed albums and one of the best ever live albums of all time.

17 albums in common...which is amazing given that my chart is only 50 at present. Pretty rock solid, if a bit classic rock heavy. The large selection of live albums certainly distinguish it from other charts.

Lots of live albums which is very interesting. You don't see too much of that in every chart. And 14% Stones? Well at least you're dedicated. It's a nice chart.
