Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. Repetitive between many artists but they are all good picks! Nice chart!

Solid album chart. These are some classics I would select to my list but my chart is different. You like NIN but you also like Radiohead. And good for me you have the Beatles here. So I give you a good Rating.
As everyone has already told you: solid selection of albums. About the classic obvious choices: I agree with them. And lets say thanks for Plastikman, never have heard of him before. It was a great surprise.

I appreciate the minimalist picks of Reich and Glass but the top 7 all being variations of Floyd/Radiohead/Beatles? It's a lot.

good stuff. you should check out:
Steven Wilson - Hand Cannot Erase (great prog rock, halfway between pink floyd and yes imo)
Faust - Faust IV (good krautrock)
Drive Like Jehu - Yank Crime (math rock)
Unwound - Leaves Turn Inside You (math rock / post-punk)
