Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. pretty alright, but very prog centered. I don't know much about prog, but I would recommend stuff by Steven Wilson (the guy behind Porcupine Tree). His solo album "Hand Cannot Erase" is fantastic.

This is fantastic. And I came here after I saw you've rated Neil Young 75, which is really low for my standards haha. Great albums, and A Perfect Circle at number 2 is something I really didn't expect but agree with.

Not a fan of metal myself, but this is one of the few really diverse charts on this site, nice job!
