The albums in this chart are like my best friends - in fact, some have been my best friends for over 50 years. I have spent more hours with most of them than I have with my real friends. These albums connect me to key moments & relationship in my life. These albums are the soundtrack to my life.
As I look back over my life, I see 3 key factors that have influenced my musical preference/tastes and the selection of albums in this chart.
1. I was born in 1956 and the 70's (when I moved between 14 - 24 years) proved to be the most dominant period in my appreciation of modern music;
2. Around 1970, influenced by the singer/songwriters of the time, I picked up the guitar and by 1972 I was penning my first song. And so, I am intrinsically drawn to the singer/songwriters;
3. I am Australian and have been exposed to some amazing & extraordinary Australian artists and music.
Finally, I decided that my chart should limit each artist to one album and allow me a wider opportunity to recognise the artists as well as the albums that soundtrack my life.

This is Pink Floyd's 8th studio album and, to be honest, the first 7 albums never registered with me. I was turning 17 when 'Dark Side Of The Moon' was released and I fell in love with it from the first time I heard songs like 'Money' and 'Us And Them' coming out of the radio. It was the right time (the perfect time!) for my developing musical interests to be taken to another level. I then had the job of saving up (maybe $A3.99) to be able to buy the album with its iconic/classic cover art....and once I had bought the album I spend many hours locked away in my bedroom (or else at a friends place) listening with such intent (just me & the album) to side 1 followed by side 2 - and being amazed each & every time ~ and to this day, almost 50 years later, I still am amazed at how perfect it is as an entire piece or creativity etched into 2 sides of vinyl.
While I rate 'Wish You Were Here' very highly and have sentimental attachments to 'Animals" & 'The Wall', 'Dark Side Of The Moon' is (for me) the ultimate Pink Floyd album and would always be in the top 10 most significant albums of my lifetime. [First added to this chart: 06/30/2020]

My own experience is that this was the first The Cure album I listened to - lent to me by a friend in 2005. I had it on repeat in my car for several weeks - and it grew on me in ways that I cannot explain. I went on the various song journeys with Robert during that time and felt a deep personal connection...so much so, that every road trip I and my friend now go on ~ and that has been quite often in the almost 20 years since she lent the album to me ~ Bloodflowers always travels with us.
I have Bloodflowers very high in my greatest albums of all time chart. With musical preferences, quite often it is all in the 'timing' and how the music connects us to significant others & events in our lives. [First added to this chart: 06/30/2020]

This album is one of those where I can clearly picture where I was & what I was doing when I heard (part of) it for the very first time ~ I can feel how I was totally mesmerised by what I heard and felt a fundamental shift in my appreciation for Bowie & the music of the times. The songs (Sweet Thing/Candidate/Sweet Thing) were played on a late Sunday night on AM radio (turned down low) in early June 1974 as I lay in bed trying to listen while the rest of the family were asleep (including my younger brother who slept in the top bunk). Luckily, the radio had a tape recording facility and I taped the songs - which I then replayed over and over until I had enough money to buy the complete album ~ and then to find songs like Diamond Dogs, Rebel Rebel, Rock N Roll With Me; 1984; Big Brother ~ it was like a 'coming of age' album for me and holds a very deep, sweet spot in my journey through modern music. While other Bowie albums rank more highly viz general consensus (& rightfully so), Diamond Dogs holds (& will always hold) a special place for me.

I like Australian music. INXS, Midnight Oil, Avalanches. Crowded House (or are they New Zealand?).
I love 70s music the best. I was born in the 70s and it's my favourite decade for music as well as the 90s.

You have an awesome selection of music artists in your Top 100. Thanks for your comments on my list too. Exceptional taste in music but not sure of the rule of 1 album per artist but it gives a greater collection of albums. Having your own album as number one is great as this should be about your personal choice and connection with the album.

I read your comment on my chart. And in all honesty, yo came off as stuck up with your criticisms of my chart. And your chart comes off as pompous as well. And as far as me having 6 Cure albums on my chart, so what? Damn near ever chart I've seen has a favorite artist with the most albums on it. That's not a big deal. All in all, your chart wasn't that exciting to me.
