My History in Music by dihansse

This is a top 100 chart of my personal musical history via albums in which I try to stick to the adagio of one album per artist. Next to a number of classics I have tried to include some hidden treasures but also some guilty pleasures to which I still stick. This means that I had to leave out some artists that I really appreciate but didn't make this overall top 100: Sorry Rolling Stones (the Beatles were better), sorry Bruce, sorry Jimi, sorry the Who, sorry ELO, sorry the Police and sorry many, many others (but you'll find them in my Decades lists).

I also tried to stick to regular albums but sometimes live albums or eaven Greatest Hits couldn't be avoided. By the way, in my custom charts I also added an alternative top chart which takes a more mathematical view on my personal taste meaning that it is the result of scoring my favorite albums and in this way of course doesn't stick to the one album by artist rule, which means several (more than 2) albums by Beatles, Sebadoh, Sonic Youth, Husker Du, Dinosaur Jr, Pavement, etc.

I was already a rock lover for two years but hadn't actually consciously heard of the Beatles until I saw the film "Help!" at school around my 13/14 years and I was immediately sold! This movie was the start of an absolute love story with the title song and the whole album. Also this was the first and only LP I ever bought. After that I turned immediately to taping cassettes and exchanging them with friends (the first music ripping ;)

Although "Help!" comes early in their career after their great but not fantastic earlier albums like "A Hard Day's Night", I think it really stands out. Apart from "Help!" itself I really liked and like their countryish songs like "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" and "You're Gonna Lose That Girl", and there's of course also "Yesterday"

The Beatles are still one of my favorite bands and "Help!"still my favorite Beatles albums even with close contest from Abbey Road and Revolver.

Although I'm a really big fan of the Rolling Stones, they can't compete with the Beatles and I'm sorry to say I didn't even include a Stones album in the list although different ones would appear for example in my top500.

Also albums from projects after the Beatles of the Beatles' member don't appear in the rest of the to 100 although I'm a big fan of George Harrison, John Lennon, the Wings, etc as well. [First added to this chart: 02/10/2017]

Pet Sounds

There was a big competition between the Beatles with "Sergeant's Pepper's" and the Beach Boys with this album which resulted in two incredible albums. The Beach Boys had already scored a lot of surf hits with a number of really outstanding songs like "I Get Around", "Barbara Ann" and "I Can Hear Music" but this album really was a stand-out with the heavenly "God Only Knows", a wonder of harmony between the Wilson's. Also Sloop John B and Wouldn't It be Nice are favorite songs of mine. [First added to this chart: 02/10/2017]

At one point in my life, "Light my Fire" was my favorite song and the organ playing by Ray Manzanerek intertwined by the guitar playing was largely to be blamed.

But also the other songs on this album made this a magnificent debut. [First added to this chart: 02/10/2017]
