The hypnotizing vocal performances and fearless guitar arrangements in this album transport the listener into every song. Although his original songwriting on this album is impeccable, what is truly unique about this album is the quality of the covers. It was a gamble for him to cover songs like Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and "Lilac Wine", most notable sung before by her highness, Nina Simone. Buckley's bet paid off though– he hit the jackpot. This was Jeff Buckley's only studio album. However, the amount of raw talent and pure passion it radiates in less than an hour outweighs entire careers. [First added to this chart: 04/13/2018]

A pioneering album. The band still keeps to their roots singing about love and creating their signature vocal harmonies, but branches out in new directions. New recording techniques, deeply emotional lyrics, as well as unusual yet exciting noises for a pop album from orchestral sounds to bicycle bells to dogs barking really emphasis a young Brian Wilson's genius. A controversial pick for best Dylan album – as he is most notably renowned for the surrealistic lyricism in his earlier works. In Blood on The Tracks, Dylan takes his gifts as a wordsmith and myth builder and brings it into his personal life. The album encompasses Dylan processing the five stages of grief regarding his impending divorce – denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance cycle throughout this album. The notoriously cool and aloof artist shows his emotional underbelly in one of the most universal and human struggles – heartbreak. [First added to this chart: 01/31/2019]

There is a lot to unpack with this album. It can be challenging to absorb an album that is so shrouded in myth. But if you see the album as just an album, it can become more palatable. Luckily, I’ve been listening to it on and off since I was young. (As a young girl I even named my dog Lucy after Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.)
All the songs are amazing except “Being for The Benefit of Mister Kite” and a token for later Beatles albums, a George sitar song, “Within You or Without You”. To keep this from getting any longer, essentially what makes this not only the best Beatles album, but a favorite album for many music nerds, is the amount and quality of storytelling. Even in the aforementioned songs, the entire album is full of songs that paint beautiful and detailed images. In addition, the album is masterfully produced. (Hats off to the late George Martin.)

It is truly mind blowing that is album is their debut album. Most bands, even The Beatles, need time and experience to develop their best work. Not with The Doors. Jim Morrison’s raw and sensual voice as well as his poetic lyrics are as beautiful and powerful as they would ever be right out the gate. (It should be noted he didn’t not write 100% of the lyrics.) Ray Manzarek’s keyboards in addition to Jim’s genius elevate album from great to jaw-dropping. I’ve never heard an album that’s sound alone is so... sexy, for a lack of a better word. Despite lyrics about unemployment and cigarettes, Mac's attitude, emphasised with some twangy guitars, seems to be pretty carefree. I love the fact that even when faced with adversity, he just kind of shrugs his shoulders and gives a gapped-toothed grin to the world. A very easy listen. [First added to this chart: 04/13/2018]

The best way I can describe this album is rebellious, yet refined. Culturally aware lyrics along with the driving four piece band as well as a tight brass section really elevates it from any other punk record. [First added to this chart: 04/13/2018]

One of the most diverse charts on the site. You provide a great personal perspective to your comments. I would recommend you try listening to Hip-Hop and expanding the list, but nonetheless this looks amazing
