Yeah, the way that I approach this list is to just list my favourite albums in order of preference, with no real thought as to how the list is actually going to look or how useful or interesting it is going to be to anybody. If I was recommending music to people, or making a list for a magazine for publication or something like that, I wouldn't tell people to listen to five Miles Davis albums. I'd tell them to listen to Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, etc. However, the intention of this particular list is simply to document my own personal tastes.

That said though, with the Miles Davis albums, I think that if you compare say, On The Corner and Sketches Of Spain, they're so far apart from each other in style that they may as well be by different artists (and then if you look at the personnel of musicians playing on these albums, they effectively are different artists altogether - they just happen to have the same guy at the helm). So although the albums are all listed under 'Miles Davis', they still represent a wide range of music.

You should give Miles Davis a try.

On a serious note, it seems like there are two extremes in the way people make these lists. Some spread the wealth and limit themselves to one or two albums per artist; others load up their lists with records by their favorite musicians. I expect that the latter are truer to their actual tastes and experiences, but I find the former make more interesting lists.

It's nice to have both types on this site, and I certainly can't argue that all the Miles albums in your top 22 are worthy. Good stuff.

Very good chart:
Love the jazz picks, love to see a lot unknown artists, love to see some classics.
Well, Hip Hop is not my thing.

Cool chart. Fun mix of jazz and hip hop. I'll have to check out some of those artists you have multiple albums of like Serengeti and Krantz.

I like your Chart a lot:
Wide range taste (bit too much hip hop for me).
But in the end you stick on Miles and Keith Jarrett.
That´S fine: Maybe Miles is one of the most influential artists of the 20`s century and Jarrett is a genious full of music to come out of him. Of course they`re better musicians than hundreds of Rock- Pop- Whatever-bands.
