The Lonesome Crowded West is a protest against the commercialization of the small towns across America in the 1990s, when outlet malls appeared more often than a McDonald's. It does this not through anger, like Rage Against the Machine and other such protest music of the 90s, but through sadness. There is a piercing sadness throughout this record, mourning the loss of America's innocence. And even though it is not 1997 anymore, it still feels like the US is becoming more and more corrupt, which probably seems impossible, but still keep finding ways to disappoint its citizens.

An album that needs no introduction at this point. Rap artist and visionary, Kendrick Lamar, tells us the story of his life through an amazing set of songs, with even more astounding lyrics. I'm not one to pay attention to lyrics (it took me many, many listens to realize the lyrics on Heaven or Las Vegas were pure gibberish), but the words of this album not only pop out at you, but they will stick with you. It's hard to fully comprehend on first listen, even if you are doing absolutely nothing but staring at the lyrics and taking in the music. It rewards you more with each subsequent listen, this album's relistenability is second to none.

Nirvana was my first musical love and this was my first record. Everything about it is perfect. It's aggressive, otherworldly, and intelligent all at the same time.

This one is obvious. Almost every song on this album could be considered one of the greatest songs of all time and they all fit the same tone.

It took me too long to get really into this album (and band in general), but there's no better pop album out there. Brian Wilson was a master at crafting perfect pop songs. Pet Sounds is a great album to get lost in, every song is great. Highly recommend listening to this in both mono and stereo.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 2% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 90.3/100, a mean average of 91.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 91.6/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 5.7.

Discovered your chart after seeing you had Blind Girls' Residue at a 9.5/10 (shame it didn't make the cut here!). Surprised I haven't come across this before; you've got great taste and your passion really comes through in the writing. Hail Bjork!

Very diverse and adventurous chart, which kinda makes Nevermind being so high kinda baffling, but otherwise great.

This chart is awesome! You have great taste - a real eclectic mix in terms of genres covered, and importantly you've given due praise to indisputable classics - including many of my favourite artists and albums with great descriptions. Quite a few more you have here are just outside my top 100. Love your work!
