Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by bermolder Unknown

My FAVORITE** albums. Hence the emphasis on certain genres and artists.
This is by no means a list of the greats. That's far too difficult to quantify. The listed albums have either spoken to me on a personal level, garnered points for nostalgia, or simply happen to be on repeat in the buds for reasons I cannot explain. They represent my personal go-to albums.

I encourage recommendations. There's a trove of wonderful undiscovered music out there.

Another unique album from Sufjan. More impressive (IMO) than even the acclaimed Chicago. You can't help but get emotional listening to it. It's powerful material. Sufjan nearly brings me to tears (and as such playthroughs tend to be clandestine operations). To evoke such feeling warrants a top rank. If the fanfare of Chicago doesn't appeal to you, try out C&L. Pay attention to the lyrics on this one folks.

Shame this guy is a wackjob. This album was extremely well produced. An account of Kanye as he basks in and resents his glory.

Continuum is a solid album through and through. Sure, the themes lack complexity and it can be pretty corny. BUT Mayer's voice is one of butter. It's rather contagious. A great guitar player as well, just check out his trio. There's a bluesy soul feel to each song and a very easy listen overall. I like to pop it on on the way home from a cottage to bring vibes down to more of a simmer.

Vultures, I dont trust myself, Slow dancing in a burning room.

Pt 1. is magical. Pt. 2 is the calm after the storm.

Oldfield absolutely crushes this one. At time it drags but I deem the slowdown to be necessary for the build and appreciation of the storm.

It pains me how underrated this album is. While the album concept may not be as cohesive as Crime of the Century, each individual track contains a cacophony of sound. Saxophone, flageolet, clarinet, piano, cello, harmonica... Have you ever heard a marimba solo? Check out 'Lady'. Every song is lengthy, complex, and utterly original.

Somehow a consistent record despite it's length. Reflektor also supports a more relatable, realistic message than some of their other work (neon bible). Reflektor and Afterlife are clear album favourites. Though, there are other gems hidden within.

The Iver response to "Kid A" or "Age of Adz". So very unique. This album may be a top 10 if the lyrics didn't make me feel like I was reading a thesaurus.

I must've listened to Kid A twenty times before I liked it. I couldn't figure out why it topped every list ever made. Couldn't gel with the lyrics. It was so different from In Rainbows, and came across as a flurry of unorganized sounds and ambient. All I can say is...give it time and give it a full playthrough. As the saying goes 'Kid A may not be your first Radiohead album, but it will be your last'.

Boy can sing. Tons of hits on this one. Admittedly, a few too many interludes as well.
"Lost" is one of the best tracks out there.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 17% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 87.3/100, a mean average of 88.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 88.0/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 9.0.

Nice chart indeed and a few less often seen artists/albums for me to check out ~ for which I thank you.

This is a decent chart, with a lot of classic choices from the 2000s and 2010s. Love that you've included Beach House's 'Bloom' in here!

Although there is something of a stereotypical pattern to this chart in its focus on 2000s alternative and 1970s progressive rock, both genres of inconsistent attraction at most to my ears, I do not think of it as remotely bad. There are enough surprising choices to maintain interest, and even some well-known choices that might not be expected (which I actually like).

Excellent chart, lots in common. I love your descriptions of the ska albums since you're a brass player, super cool thinking about music from that perspective.

Cool selection and nice effort. I was stoked to see Streetlight Manifesto up there, but a little less stoked about Kanye... Personally, i'm not crazy with some of your selections but as a whole your chart holds up especially with stuff like Flatliners, Catch 22, Common and the moe obvious like Arctic Monkeys and the Strokes, etc...
